So what if he's a philanthropist? Good for him and those he helped. And of course he's going to spend his own money to finance a team coming here- it's his team. And he gets a lion's share of the revenue. I'm happy the Texans are here, but I'm not going to go around to pretend that this is some gift that McNair bestowed upon us that I should be grateful for- its a business. He brought a team to an area that was ripe for it, and he's made absurd amounts of money off of it. If there was risk of it being a losing proposition, he wouldn't have done that. With 8 years of being mediocre at best, the Texans sold out every game. It's a difference of view- you may think that "the man" is this a great, charitable person who has done so much for this city, while I see him as a businessman. Simple as that. And how do you know I went to college?
This thread turned into one of those weird ones where there seems to be some larger personal issue a person has but finds a way to attach it to such a simple and basic story where nothing is really out of place.
I think you know it was a sarcastic comment to make a point. I'm not feeding a troll. There are people who have a clear lack of understanding of how the situation works. I'm accepting that now. Brick walls hurt my head.
people get so up in arms when people talk about tax money being spent the fund he's going to draw from is meant for this kind of thing so yeah, young conservatives yall can pipe down
You do realize Jerry's World has a Retractable roof? #2...You have to would have to had support beams for a Scoreboard for that size. That would mean redoing the redoing the roof because Reliant's roof is too low for that type of scoreboard. Jerry's World Dome is VERY HIGH UP. That would cost ALOT more than $16 million. Scoreboards used for the Final Four were fine for basketball and were temporary.
If SF gets the superbowl, its because they will have a brand new stadium, not because it is a destination city because Santa Clara is not that. You can take a train any number of places, but Santa Clara is not San Francisco, so comparing Houston to SF for a superbowl destination doesnt make sense
Nobody will be referring to it as the "Santa Clara" Superbowl. It is essentially SF vs. Houston, with Santa Clara's distance being a minor negative for that region. But SF will be where the lion's share of the Superbowl stuff goes down.
I don't mind the screens we have, I'd rather have 2 decent screens, one on each end, then on huge one just on one end. One of the reason I don't like BBVA stadium, if your sitting in front of the big screen on the end zone, your screwed...
It's called the Repair and Replacement Fund, not the Repair and Upgrade Fund. Just because there is money there (by the way, we don't have the money for the project, which is why McNair is financing it), does not mean it needs to be spent by us. Especially exclusively. And the Rodeo (there are no other tenants, IIRC) will get "more use" out of it by a handful of days, but let's not fool ourselves into thinking that people would be willing to support this project if it wasn't spearheaded by the NFL/Texans.
