WOW! When there was like 6 and 10 seconds left I wanted the Texans to go for it, but I definitely wanted them to kick the FG when there was 2 left - man that was so tense. We finally got in what, like the 100th try in the redzone on that possession, gutsy call by Capers though - good job. Stevens didn't look too bad out there today. Chris Palmer (off. coord.) had his head up his @$$ today. David Carr is such a hardass, man I love him (in a non-gay way)....not there's anything wrong with that. Yahoo, yahoo for school....yahoo for David Carr and the Texans.
Can't believe I missed the whole game on a work-related trip. Now I gotta wait two weeks to see the Texans again, this blows. Seems like I missed an exciting conclusion, ESPN better show some good highlights of this game.
I am glad I turned down my tv volume, and listened to the radio. It was the first time I ever did that. It was quite nice actually.
I posted this earlier in this thread... Its pretty obvious how the bad games get the bad announcers. But, these announcers weren't just bad... they were terrible!!! I can't believe there's not better journalism talent than Don Cirqui for a game on CBS. I'll even take Bill Worrell (woah... I must be crazy.)
Spooky. All predicting exactly 24 points for the Texans in a win: Rockets2K The Real Shady MadMax MoBalls with Honorable mention to Lil Francis david_rocket for nailing the approx outcome and point spread. Take a bow.
A very interesting question, one that crossed my mind too. The other coach may have figured we were too conservative to go for it with no time left, so why not tackle all receivers?! Their only problem is we eventually stopped passing the ball! Otherwise, eventually, we were bound to throw an uncatchable ball (hence no pass interference could be called), or dare I mention, unleash the Oilers' specialty: the dreaded fumbled QB snap turnover (thank goodness that malady ended with the Oilers regime).
Hey Nick, Was there any word on why the stands looked completely empty in the stadium? After halftime, it seemed like they were at about 60% capacity! Was it not a sell out? --The "other" editor (not Gobes)
They announced that there was 70,000 and change tickets sold at the game. But you're right, the end zone to the left of my seats looked virtually empty in the 2nd half, and I couldn't for the life of me figure out why. They seemed filled in the first half.
I think you're talking about the side of the stadium where the sun was beating down (it was a damn beautiful day today... not a cloud in the sky). I'm guessing, since Reliant is so nice, they decided to watch the game from the concourses to avoid getting a tan... Seriously, though... I think they showed that side on TV right after halftime... and it was very empty. I really think these people either found seats on the other side of the stadium (the shady side), or they watched the game from elsewhere. If that is the case, can Houston fans PLEASE get a little tougher? I heard there were complaints at the 'Stros game for them opening the roof in the 3rd inning today... it was a freakin glorious day, it shouldn't have been shut at all. Every Texans game is a sellout, but i'm sure there were quite a few no-shows today... maybe they still thought the 'Stros were in contention.
Damn! I'm the Unofficial "Ms Cleo" Award Winner for the week.. only missed it by one. Gotta give credit to Dom and Carr for having the cajones to go for the win instead of gambling on OT. As ugly as the game was, god only knows what would have happened in OT.. and one last thing...as hard as I have been riding on Stevens these last few weeks, Ill give him credit for making a few good plays today. but I aint holding my breath for him to make more... and I still think McCree should start over him...leave Stevens on special teams where he can do less damage. Overall, a good morale booster going into the bye..
I went to the game today (section 125 in the sun) and I couldn't understand why so many people were leaving after the third quarter and the Texans were only down by 3pts. If I spend that type of money on tickets im staying the whole damn game.
Secondary was awesome on the last couple a minute of the game and noticeably that the corners came big. But I did give Dom Capers that gutsy call that made us win. Dom, you are the man!!!
Man, the Texans are even getting love from ESPN! The guys on NFL tonight kept saying on how brave Capers is. They even sang a song that had dom in it. I can't remember what it was though.
I'm tired of people saying this was such a gutsy or risky call (going for it when you're only inches from the goal line). To me, taking a chance on overtime would be the greater gamble. They say that the team with first possession in overtime usually wins. But first possession in overtime depends on the flip of a coin: a 50% chance! I don't know the statistics, but I'm willing to bet that the odds of gaining a few needed inches on the field would be much higher than 50%. So Capers made the right call (but it wasn't that much of a gamble). It would have been idiotic to pass up a great chance to win (inches from the goal line), in favor of a field goal and only a 50-50 opportunity to win the coin flip in overtime (after which you still aren't guaranteed a victory). Capers said it best when he said something like "If we can't get a couple of inches, we don't deserve to win." Basicly, if you get an opportunity to win like that, you gotta take it.
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!! Anyone check out the "WE MUST PROTECT THIS HOUSE" sign in section 115 during the 4th quarter? IT WORKED!!! I love that freaking Underarmour commercial. Yeah, the west side of the Stadium was packed, seems like everyone from the east side moved over or if not went up to the area behind the seats. That was such a freaking crazy game. BTW- Anyone notice that Matt Stevens has actually made a few plays here and there since we signed McCree? He's living on borrowed time though, heh. I wish he'd have gotten that INT in the endzone though, too bad either Wright or Coleman ran into him as he was going for the ball. My tan is darker than usual My voice is all but gone My wallet is all but empty My head is pounding My stomach feels odd after downing 3 soda's and a hotdog due to the heat/not eating before the game But it's WELL worth it. GO TEXANS!
