All three of Denver's starting linebackers as well as Champ Bailey were on the bench to start the 3rd.
Possibly by actually looking like a quarterback with a presense and poise in the pocket. Oh yeah, and actually completing passes to wideouts.
They both had 6 completions to wide receivers. Whatever, you're obviously on one side of the fence and not willing to accept anything else. I can actually look at the game without bias...Carr looked like dog poop for the first 20 minutes of the game...but then settled down and looked good.
The point of the game is to win as a team; not to pad individual stats. If Mario Williams draws double teams to where the defense as a whole is better, then I'm all for that. That alone justifies his pick to me. I don't need Mario Williams to get 14 sacks this season. It would be great if he did, but it's not absolutely necessary. I would much rather the entire defense play better as a unit and Mario get 6 sacks. Plus, as you said, he's only 21. He has a lot of growing to do in this league. Mario will be fine.
You only see things in black and white terms. You see a "busted play" and a 40 yard gain or whatever it was. Thats it, thats all you see. Those of us who see the world from a much broader perspective don't see the black and white of that play. We see potential, we see that the guy was significantally faster than the other NFL players on the field, we saw cuts, burst, and instinct that we have rarely seen before by say Morency who may have had a 95 yard run straight thru a big hole. There is so much more to football than "how many yards did he get" "how many td's did he score", "how many sacks". blah blah blah. [theoritically - take one play for example] So Morencey got an outstanding block, the middle linebacker tripped and fell and he ran for 99 yards and a touchdown. Bush had nowhere to go, no blocking, nothinig, so he reversed his field, outran the entire team to the corner and then turned on the afterburners and made two phenomenal cuts without losing any speed and gained 40 yards. So you'd rather have Morency based on stats alone, right? Come on, if you view everything in those absolute black and white terms, then god your life must be boring. As for Mario, who cares how many sacks he gets if any at all. If he is wrecking havoc on people trying to block him, drawing double teams, making the offense run away from him on running plays then hell yeah he's kicking ass and i'm all for it. Its not about crap like "mario didn't have any sacks" or "lundy has scored 2 TD's, bush has none". Come on.
i simply objected to the way you tried to excuse the interception - yeah, it was a bad pass, but.... no but. it was a bad pass. and passes like that will get picked off routinely. he's been in the league five years - why is still making that decision/pass? to me, carr looks like a vietnam vet at a fireworks show. on the first possession of the 2nd half, he threw two short passes and then two incompletions that stalled the drive. on the second drive, he did look better, but here were the broncos credited with tackles on that drive: wells, cox, brandon, paymah, vaughn & dumervil. know what they all have in common? they're all second and third-teamers. his team won; helped in large part by houston's offense (and special teams) giving away field position. but it's a body of work - plummer's been to the playoffs; he's put up decent numbers. i don't think anyone in denver has reason to worry. why should we feel the same about carr? what has he done to generate confidence?
As for Carr, I'm not sold on him at all. I can say confidently that we would be better off with Young, Leinart, or Cutler starting for us this year than the 4 year veteran david Carr who has to be one of the most overpaid players in sports. As for Cutler, wow. I don't know what his stats are, how many TD's ints he's thrown, but wow how fast is his release? Based on potential from what i've seen, the way he hangs in the pocket, his quick release and accuracy I think this guy is going to be a bad ass. I am very impressed with him from what little i've seen so far.

HOU 3 DEN 10, Plays: 16 Yards: 69 Possession: 4:10. Three completions for 16 yards to his recievers against Denver's starters. You want to tell me where he started looking like a real qb? And like I said, all three of Denver's starting linebackers and Champ Bailey were on the bench to start the second half. This is David Carr's 5th season. Stop treating him with kid gloves.
M. Williams and Carr will always have great expectations tied to them because of the number one pick. They are both expected to be difference makers each and every game they play. I don't expect Williams to sack the QB on every play, but you do expect him to get some tackles and be around the ball on defense. Carr on the other hand is 5 years in and I know he had a horrible start in the league, but it's time for him to live up to his billing or move over for someone who can get the job done.
I'm simply responding to posters who are already willing to call Bush a superstar and Mario a bust by posting Morency's stats to show how absurd it is to make these declarations in the pre-season. As far as Bush's good play, I already knew he was fast. What I want to know is if he'll still be able to beat those guys when they start to learn that you can't over-pursue a guy like Bush because those cutbacks can be deadly. Time will tell. Just not in the preseason.
and i didn't understand this sequence at all. 10 seconds peeled off the clock... and then you spike it? plenty of time for at least a play. why not let carr prove something to everyone, especially the team that, i think, has tuned him out. more galling, he then ran off the field all smiles, as if falling short of the end zone marks an accomplishment to be proud of. i would have walked off angry. one more thing, why is carr not glued to kubiak's hip after coming out of the game - where does he go? what does he do? is there no benefit in having him watch kubiak at work? blah; i'm frustrated.
I love Bush. But i'm pulling for Mario, I just don't want people coming back and bashinig Mario if he doesn't get 10 sacks this season, there is way more to it than just sacks and tackles IMO. We'll see
We're on the same page, except I can't love Bush. Him and Mario are too intertwined and too many people can't look past flash (which I'm not saying that's all Bush will be) to see that we could've made the right decision. Bush is definitely exciting to watch.
How is that a good thing? Isn't Carr's problem that he is never consistent? Looking good for 10 minutes and bad for 20 seems to be exactly the problem he's had for the last 4 years, no?
All Im saying is that he had his good moments...nobody seems to see that. And gunn, thanks for pointing out the 1st quarter where Carr sucked...I never said otherwise. Again, you seem to be making points that are totally irrelevant.
I watched the game last night and came away with some opinions...these are my own...you can flame me all you want I doubt we will win more than 4 games this year. (which for this team, it's a good thing. we need to fill major holes) IMO 1) our offense looks like it's stuck in 1st gear, one level up from last years neutral. 2) David Carr. 3) The toughest schedule in NFL 4) David Carr. Granted this is a new staff/philosophy, and it may take more than a few years, but honestly, David Carr isn't our QB. The guy still looks like he's telegraphing his throws. Still scared, ect... content with a field goal One bright spot was the D. Mario Williams is gonna take a few years to develop. Demeco Ryans is a gonna be pro-bowl material We need to start looking for a QB via FA market or Draft aka, Brady Quinn.
Prediction- After the first 4 regular season games even the Carr supporters will be struggling for spin and excuses.
