Yates to Falcons for LB Akeem Dent, per league source.</p>— ProFootballTalk (@ProFootballTalk) <a href="https://twitter.com/ProFootballTalk/statuses/479454781967065088">June 19, 2014</a></blockquote> <script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>
I don't know anything about Dent. I know we could use all the Lb depth we could get, and that we were going to release Yates anyways, so I call this a win.
He was a starter but lost his job during the season. He had 13 starts in 2012 and 7 in 2013. Reportedly, he was bothered by an ankle injury last year. It was thought that he'd have surgery this offseason but he got a second opinion and didn't have it.
LOL... Dream was great before the H, though. Maybe Hakeem can just pray for him and show him some footwork.
Dent is a 4-3 ILB that was stuck in a 3-4. He's horrible in pass coverage, decent in run support. Basically good depth
Texans announced that they were cutting Yates. Atl called and offered a trade for someone they were probably going to cut too. Many atl fans loving this trade. Believe they got a "proven starter and playoff experienced backup" for someone they thought was going to get cut anyways. Makes sense for both teams. Dent has been pretty awful for the falcons though. Hope he can turn it around here.
Maybe the system will help Akeem fit a role as a depth guy? Heck, I've seen crazier things happen with something as simple as a coaching and system change.
A trade between two teams that were projected to go far last year and both fell to the bottom... I like it. Also, I wonder if Kubiak tried to make any offer or anything, everyone was wondering if the Ravens would want him because Flacco has zero backup, he has been with Kubiak before, and they have Owen Daniels.
Wow. The Falcons needed a backup QB in the worst way. Dominique Davis? What the hell is a Dominique Davis?
Except it wasn't. O'Brien was talking about him being cut yesterday morning. They were going to waive him...and then the Falcons showed up with a trade offer. What's curious is...did they not float his name out for trades before? It seemed like they were ready to cut a guy before seeing if there was any value out there in return first.
I think what is most likely is that they floated Yates out there, nobody offered anything the Texans cared about so they decided to just cut him. When they announced that, the Falcons thought "Man, if they let him go, the Ravens will just scoop him up. We'd like to take a shot at him." So they called up the Texans and said "Hey, we'll give you a scrub linebacker we are going to cut for your scrub QB that you are going to cut. Maybe we both get lucky?" Texans decided to accept that deal to get a linebacker on the roster and see what they had. Let's not act like they just got anything more than a scrubby scrub scrub here.
