So much misinformation in here about injury history and the Texans contract responsibility to Cooks it's not even worth it to point out specifics. Solid trade. High upside, medium risk. Moving on...
Yikes. We are quickly turning into the Washington Redskins. They still haven't recovered from all the dumb moves Snyder made 20 years ago.
Instead of catching screen passes, David Johnson will be running up the middle for 1 yard. Carlos Hyde can do that. Unfortunately GM O'Brien must think coach O'Brien will actually run some good plays.
This move looks better in the light of day but still part of a baffling offseason. If he can stay healthy, it should be a decent move. I'm less concerned about how he disappeared sometimes catching balls from Goff, than the concussion history.
Misinformation on injuries, sure, he missed 2 games. High upside? He had a down year, from 75 yards a game to 41.6 yards a game, it was also his second lowest catch % rate in his whole career. It's the least number of targets he has had for the year in his whole career, surely there's something the Rams know. Under utilized, under performed, missed 2 games from injury = 2nd round pick. Meanwhile, Hopkins on a slightly higher salary, all pro, 1000+ yards = 2nd round pick + D Johnson. Zero sense.
I like this with cooks and fuller on each side of the field db’s cant stay with them but I don’t want Watson holding onto the ball too long so hopefully this year will include a bunch of dump passes to the Johnson’s also
ESPN is so sure BoB’s moves are a “Disaster”. I don’t like the Hopkins’ trade. I’m not sure on the Cooks’ trade. With that said, they don’t know ****. Even if u don’t like the Clowney trade, they got a staring CB and a developing pass rusher out of it. It wasn’t the “disaster” ESPN made it out to be with Clowney’s 3 sacks last year. We won’t know how these play out until next season. I tell you what though, Texans are not boring with BoB at the helm. LOL. There where many years the Texans didn’t do ANYTHING in the offseason or with trades. All you here from this board: “DO SOMETHING!”. Trader Bob is aggressive as hell, for better or worse.
I think what’s happening here is that we will be a contender this upcoming year with an explosive offense and improved defense. The contracts for cook and Johnson will be dumped after next year to pay Watson and Tunsil. The team will then suck in 2021 setting us up for when we will have all our draft picks and then some in 2022. So trying to contend in 2020, tanking in 2021, re-stocking thru draft and free agency in 2022. Our offensive line is good, young, and set for years to come. Our secondary looks better this year and going forward could get better if the youngsters progress. We need to use this year’s second on pass rush maybe pick up a receiver in the third round. Not saying the trades were great, just think this is the thinking. All in for 2020 on short term veteran contracts. Tanking in 2021 to make our draft picks more valuable in 2022.
I think as usual fans are overreacting rather than trying to see the logic. Hop was not happy with his contract and wanted to renegotiate with 3 years left. You can't give in to that or every contract becomes a renegotiation risk, especially knowing you will have to pay Deshaun and Tunsil soon, there just wouldn't be cap room going forward. The risk of malignancy meant the issue needed action. The net of the deal was like selling a top performing stock in exchange for some ETF's, it reduced the risks , of Hop holding out and the risk subverting the Salary Cap management, of 1 player getting injured, and expands the roster of effective players you can play in case of injury. If you have 4 speed burners with injury issues, you should be able to have at least 2 available every game. Imagine the play action roll-out game with sub 4.4's running deep crossing patterns. It plays to the strength of Watson.
So the solution is just to trade away every unhappy player or players who wants a new contract? LOL hopefully Watson realizes this is his ticket out of this dumpster!
Part of the problem is O'Brien's scheme. Anyone that has watched a bunch of Texans' games the last few years can see it. Our defensive backs play 10 yards back and non-stop you see the other team having receivers wide open with no Texans even in the shot on the tv broadcast. Meanwhile, a large part of Hopkins' grabs are him with one or 2 defensive players all over him. He's constantly having to make circus catches. Then O'Brien sees how open his offense becomes when Fuller is healthy. O'Brien is such an egomaniac he doesn't realize his scheme is the problem not the players. O'Brien can't put players in a position to beat coverage as well as other coaches. He doesn't know how to bend the rules like the Patriots with pick plays, etc. So now he's decided to go all speed/quickness to counter his inability to draw up plays to get guys open.
The concussion history is a real concern but can't say he is not durable, he's missed 2 games in the past 5 seasons. He's actually been remarkably durable given the concussions. Also what makes you say he need to be re-signed? He's under contract for the next 4 years.
when you're possibly another concussion away from retiring, nah that's not considering someone durable
