Other than SportsRadio 610 and maybe Chron reporters like McClain I don't think anyone has backed the Texans story.

The way I gather everything, he wanted to get paid for a full-season (starting caliber DE pay), and the Texans probably offered prorated half-season pay a little below market value. He wasn't going to take Antonio Smith's job, unless Smith were to go through a bad streak, so he was going to be a pass-situation only player.

So, the two sides just weren't on the same page. If we had a gaping hole at DE, the Texans might have paid him what he wanted and giving him a starting role. I don't blame them for not overpaying a guy and potentially causing problems in the locker room because the guy couldn't accept a lesser role.

i'm not interested in who's backing who. The guy retired so obviously wasnt too keen on playing football anymore. ALso, if he secretly wanted to play so bad he would have actually kept himself in better shape...he said himself he gained weight and needed more time to get into shape.

Maybe his terms were unreasonable maybe not. Either way, he just isnt coming across as a guy whose heart is really in the game anymore, which who can blame him after playing in buffalo the last few years.

I bet Denney gets cut. Ogunleye saw more snaps in the Raiders game than Denney ever did for us and he was also inactive after being active the 2 previous games

He didn't walk away from $8 million. Buffalo was going to cut him if he wanted to return there. They are a rebuilding team and moved to a 3-4 defense so why would they pay a 33 year old $8 million? The reason they didn’t cut him sooner is because they knew he was going to probably retire and the off chance he decides to come back, try to trade him to someone for a pick. They tried to trade him and found no takers. I highly doubt the Texans had a deal worked out with Schobel before the workout. Why would they did work him out? Makes no sense to negotiate a deal with a guy who hasn't played football in 9 months unless you seen what type of shape he is in. The guy on 1560 is friends with Schobels agent so I am sure he was spinning towards his client’s side. Schobel said himself he didn’t know if he is ego could take being a 3rd down pass rusher. That what his role would have been here. He isn’t a better player than Mario Williams or Antonio Smith.

side note...his cap value was 8.5 million. I think his base salary was 3.5 with an additional 3.5 in bonus

Yeah it doesn't matter. No way they would have kept him at that salary. New coaching staff, defensive system, and rebuilding team.

I think he was the same guy that caused both fumbles during the Saints game this past weekend.

He showed explosiveness and drive to get to the quarterback/ball carrier. Hopefully he is a gem in the ruff, but he may just end up being a quality rotational player.

Antonio Smith and Mario are both playing exceptionally. All we need is a solid rotational player.

The good thing about our team, now that Cushing is back, is that we have a great LB core that can mask any deficiencies against the run that our DLineman may have. So if Anderson comes in on 3rd and long situations, Im not really worried that he may suck against the run. He can over pursue all he wants.

we need to get over schobel .. this is the biggest crush we have had on someone who didnt even suit up ..

he said he was glad the whole thing was over .. clearly he was only going to play for a lot of money and did not want to be coming off the bench (as Mcclain noted) .. his former team didnt think he was good enough to start ... it was not going to work out and im sure part of him didnt want it to either ....

I would say second biggest crush. There are still way too many people who can't think of Vince Young without busting out the tissues and lotion bottle

I just noticed this guy went to the same high school as me and we graduated the same year. We weren't really a huge school, yet I do not remember him at all...

We've had some notable athletic alums (Felix Jones, Robert Meachem, R. W. McQuarters, Etan Thomas, Wayman Tisdale) so I guess he could've been lost in the shuffle, but I think my memory's just starting to go. Here's hoping he works out.
