Right but getting out on the fringe and making plays with his legs is not really a staple of what has made Young a great college QB. Expecting him to change up and start doing that is asking for trouble. The vibe where I was at last night started leaning towards Anthony Richardson - not that I completely agree with it, but if this is the new NFL AR15 might be a good candidate to coach up. I'd still much rather keep building the foundation and then hope we can find a more dynamic QB next season or via trade/free agency.
I'll admit, the closer we get to the draft, I'm more open. Richardson will have to set a yr. but he is an option. If they do decide to go that route, who would you bring in to compete with Mills? I was thinking Baker or Jamis.
no idea who he is, but it's interesting that the majority of his career was on the defensive side and only went to the offensive side a few years ago.
Wasnt it reported that he signed on as a RB coach? ETA- first page https://bbs.clutchfans.net/threads/texans-to-hire-bobby-slowik-as-oc.318716/#post-14507272
McClain walked that back. He tweeted out that he jumped the gun and Kubiak is exploring other options as well.
I like the hire...up and coming OC that Demeco has had a working and solid relationship with - trust - to me that's more important then a veteran experienced person that might be not as trust worthy with the head coach
I'm non-committal at this point. I'm all for giving young, bright minds opportunities, but whether he's ready to make the jump to OC and a play caller is yet to be seen. I'd feel much better if a guy like Klint Kubiak was with him because he's had some experience in the job and can help Bobby grow into the position.
I think it's fair to say they are building a competent, well designed staff that clearly has a scheme and knowledge of how to implement it, regardless of who the QB is. That's much different than "We hired this OLINE coach because he's nasty!" or "our scheme? Versatile!" or whatever bullshit they've run out there for several years now. We know what they are going to install. It's the Kubiak/Shanahan offense on O and the Wide 9 front on D. They've brought in guys that are specifically good at coaching those systems.
Its because the news of Slowik was already posted in the Demeco Ryans a few days ago before this, and was already talked about it, there is no need to create a thread to announce every coaching hire, now lets see a thread about the new offensive line coach.
