We don't use it and it's really really ugly. It's probably the ugliest retractable roof stadium. If you design a raised permanent roof and move the end zone video boards you would have tons of new real estate to do what you wish.

The one year the roof was damaged from Ike, it had to stay open it was great.

It should only close for rain. Wear a friggin jacket if it's cold, and if it's hot you should be used to it because it's Houston.

Nah... That's a terrible idea. There's absolutely zero air circulation in that place with no AC. Last time that they did that fans were passing out and being hospitalized.

and are you going to pay the $200-$300 million dollars a renovation like that would cost? The Texans aren't........The roof is not ugly. This about the DUMBEST post I've seen yet.

The roof is part of the stadium's design. You can just put a permanent roof on it. You might as well build a new stadium because the cost would be huge.

As for being hot, it's Houson....Do you understand why they built the Astrodome in the first place? You understand why Minute Maid Park has a roof? Do you understand why the Diamondbacks have a roof on their stadium? Do understand why the Rangers are trying to replace an 18 year old, perfectly fine ballpark? HEAT. Rangers fans are tired of baking in 95-100 degree heat. Sitting in heat sucks. The Texans will open the roof when they want. Coaches like it closed because the climate is constant, and for crowd noise.

I don't think heat is the reason the Rangers want to replace a 20-year-old stadium.

    Yes, it's the heat.

The DFW sports teams have Arlington by the nads.... the suburb city feels like the sports teams add a sense of civic pride/responsibility, and it legitimizes their role in the metroplex.

Thus, the teams are going to milk them for whatever its worth... it was also dumb that they built an outdoor baseball stadium without a roof option. This was an issue dating back to the old arlington stadium days.

    That was also overblown.

They should open it on nice days... days where any other person would be perfectly fine outside or would look to do outdoor activities (and there are plenty of good days in Houston from October on...)

    On hot days, close it.

It's a huge reason. The Rangers funded a design study on adding a roof to their ballpark. It was determined....it would cost the same as building new stadium. Hence....u got the new stadium proposal. It affects their attendance........

Um....no it wasn't. I was at a similar game where the end zone side was in the sun with the temp. around 80 degrees. We baked. Prayed for a breeze.....

    Anecdotal.

Same thing can happen at DKR. I've been to a few sun games. It can be uncomfortable, sure. But it's not deadly or a health hazard any more so than when people decide to bake in any direct sun environment for 3 straight hours.

You think NRG is ugly :confused:

Miller Park is probably the worst looking.

I'm not saying it doesn't discourage fans from attending games. I am also suggesting that you not discredit the likelihood of billionaire sports owners realizing they can hold a city hostage and coerce them into spending billions they don't have so that they can increase luxury box revenue.

Good comparison with Miller. I think they are the two worst retractable roof designs. NRG, just like Miller, is so vertical that even with the roof open it doesn't feel open. Most of the newer stadiums are also like this, you only get a small patch of blue when they are open. It's so pointless.

Toronto SkyDome/Rogers Centre has the most "open" roof and looks one of the best but happens to be the oldest which is shocking. It seems as technology has improved retractable roofs have gotten uglier and more pointless. SkyDome also has a hotel which overlooks center-field which is really cool.

Must have forgotten how well SkyDome moves. Toronto does it big with the CN too.

Perhaps instead of ugly, you meant pointless and small time. I wished MMP moved more too.

Why....? Open and Close. More movement....more cost. More likely something breaks down. The Translucent roof allows alot more natural light in the building when its closed.

MMP is fine....allows alot of light in because of the windows.

DKR is an open air design.......you can get a good breeze going because of that. Not the same...

Already seen some Cardinals fans blaming the field for Mike Jenkins ACL tear. And so it begins.

Theyre probably just b****ing just to b**** and think its the same pallet grass we used in the past. Little do they know that its the same field turf used in like 10 other stadiums.
