Nope....the NFL can lay grass if they want. NFL controls the Super Bowl field. The grass laid in the Super Bowl is like what is done for soccer.......temporary.

New field looks really nice. Best part is how adamant McClain has been at multiple points that it would never happen and then when it did it would be just one year
The Steelers changed their playing surface to synthetic turf? Heinz Field was always terrible when maintaining natural grass fields. Only place that might be worse is Soldier Field. I sure hope so. It will look really cool if they do just that!
They're on record saying they won't be using the tray system (which was used for soccer). How else do you bring a grass field and install it in there? And if it is in fact good enough for the SB, surely they would also deem it viable for the 8 home games.
I've seen a golf course bring Bermuda Grass in like big carpet rolls and just roll it out. It came in 18 wheeler trucks from California. The roots were hydro washed and rolled out over a layer of sand. Top dressed and watered , it was ready for play in a couple of weeks. But, live grass takes sunlight and air movement to grow, mainly to self-repair damage. You just can't get enough of either way down in a hole. So if you wanted to spend a huge amount of money it could be done for a temporary field, but you couldn't maintain it over a season (or pick it up and move it for the rodeo) ( Bear Creek Master's course after the 1989 freeze that killed all of the greens)
Why???????? Retractable roofs has nothing to with grass. Indy has a retractable roof. The new Atlanta stadium, Toronto, AT&T stadium...all have artificial fields.
they never open it anyway, even after demanding it..... seems like the texans could spot the fans the cost on that failure. we've only filled out every single game ever, bought concessions, jerseys, etc. etc. etc.
The Texans would have been OK with an open air stadium. The Rodeo demanded the retractable roof or dome.
If they really wanted to spot the people who paid for it... it would have to target those who rent cars and stay in hotels in Houston. If they stick with the 50-80 rule... it should be open for at least 2-3 of the 8 games. If they get good enough to get more night games, those should also automatically be open as well. I think its a pretty awesome atmosphere when its open.... who can forget that Ryan Fitzpatrick 6 TD game that took place under sunny sky and crisp weather????
Like everyone has stated, we don't use it at all. If they get rid of it they could add additional seating, boxes, screens, etc... something useful that would actually be used.
They shouldn't get rid of it, they should change the silly 50-80 rule to something like 0-90. It's open every year for the SHSU/sfa game and it's just a wonderful experience watching a game under the blue sky in October or November.
UM......a permanent roof wouldn't allow for any of that. If fact....a permanent roof would probably take seats from the top rows...Screens? They are 2 of the largest screens in the World at both end zones. There is NOTHING useful about a permanent roof. Plus.....who is going to pay for it? Not the Texans. BTW...they do use it. You are not going to open it in day games before October with Houston's heat. Night game are possible. The Reason they keep it closed alot is at the request of the Head Coach.
Could you morons please stop complaining about the roof? NRG was built at an ideal time and Houston squeaked by not paying what they cost now. The issue is dead and has been for 16 years. Get over it.
Certain people think just because they dont use the Roof much, it is a waste. It really didn't cost that much extra, especially compared to new stadiums. I like the ability to play in Natural light or open air when they choose.
