The rookie free agents are offensive tackles Ryan Bachman (Kearney State) and Brad Lekkerkerker (Cal-Davis), center Andrew Martin (Northern Colorado), guard Chavis Smith (Tennessee), nose tackle Ifo Pili (Brigham Young), defensive ends Brandon Casavan (Wyoming) and D.J. Renteria (New Mexico), fullback Tim Gale (Northeastern) and receiver Kendrick Starling (San Jose State). The team also will hold tryouts for five players during the rookie minicamp Thursday through Saturday, including guard Brandon Evans, who attended Westfield High School and the University of Houston. The other players on tryouts are receiver Toby Christensen (BYU), receiver/tight end Chris Coleman (Alabama State), punter Nate McKinney (Appalachian State) and defensive end Bryce Wyatt (LSU). The Texans will host their first annual career seminar today at Reliant Stadium. More than 150 students are expected to attend. Gallery Furniture owner Jim McIngvale will be the keynote speaker. I've met this guy several times. He's one of the biggest people I've ever stood face to face with and talked to. I saw him working out with 415 on bench press.
Damn! I was really hoping that the Texans would sign BJ Johnson! I cannot believe that he wasnt drafted in the first place, but he is going to be a player. Just saw that he signed with the Broncos.
For the record, there was a story in the chronicle the other day detailing Gale's diabetes. Apparently until he gets adjusted, he has to have his blood sugar monitored almost between every play.
