The job opening at the time was third string quarterback. Someone with a live arm to learn the system, run the scout team. Maybe Delhomme didn't want to unretire just to come try out for the third spot. Maybe Kubes ultimately didn't think Garcia was the right personality to be a third stringer.
Ima/msn - i essentially agree w/both of you. there really wasn't anybody out there of note unless you could convince warner to try it again or thought the circus was a worthy cost for a shot at farve. I personally think we are well positioned enough this year that we should have made calls to both of these guys. I don't know for a fact that they didn't, but i've gone a strong belief that they didn't. As per needing a backup as opposed to a veteran when Schaub went down... look, i tried being optimistic too, but the book on Leinart was exactly what we saw. check down. Plus if you know that one injury puts you with a 5rd pick rookie starting, shouldn't you be looking at a veteran then? I am sure Garcia looked bad. He was brought in twice and didn't make the cut. However, i would rather sign to veteran scrubs and let them hammer it out in practice, then one and clemens. you could argue that both wouldn't have signed but i think they were both desparate enough
Tom Brady threw 3 passes his rookie season, was starter by the 4th game of his second season. He was a 6th round pick taken 199 overall, 7th qb taken. So in the past 10 years we have seen rookie QBs lead defense first teams to playoff wins and we have seen a QB taken in the 6th round come in during the middle of a season with his first real NFL playing time and lead them to a Super Bowl. **** happens, no reason to jump ship now. Yates did not look awful, he actually looked more impressive than Leinart. He ran a solid 2 minute drill and was then handcuffed during the second half since we had a 10pt lead on a team that cant score and whose only TD of the game was on a fluke play caused by AJ making Foster fumble.
I'll give you 2002, but in 2003 he played a game and a half, and in 2004 he wasn't bad by any stretch.
He's also 5 years older than Delhomme. And take a look at his stat line from the UFL last year: 132/255 51% 9 TD 11 INT I think it's very, very safe to say that he's more done than Delhomme. Not that either is a great option.
its the UFL.. who was he throwing to?... Put him with this offense, and he can get you 3 wins in the playoffs... Dont need him to be lights out... Just sharp for those 3 playoff games
Not sure how I feel, but you needed a veteran, and the Texans got Jake...Things must be really bad if that's all that's left.. SC view was he'd help Yates become a pro...seriously?
