and you didn't even mention the otherwise scrub kicker nailing a 60-yard FG (willed by VY's mere presence, of course) to beat indianapolis, perhaps the flukiest of all their wins, save for the giant collapse. the titans were outscored, 324-400. even if you throw out the first four games, they were still outscored, 277-279. and went 8-5. seems logical. they ranked 27th or lower in 6 of the 8 main statistical team categories (total O; pass O; total D; score D; rush D; pass D), including dead-last in total D. in fact, here's where they ranked in the four main team defense statistical categories: total D: 32; score D: 31; rush D: 30; pass D: 27. and went 8-5. seems logical. so yeah, keep thinking they'll improve on 8 wins next year... seems logical. (btw, just as a point of comparison: the lowly texans ranked 27th or lower in just two categories.) next year, when a team doesn't inexplicably blow a 21-point 4Q lead; when your career 35% (12-22) from 40+ yards kicker doesn't nail a 60-yard GW; when your defense doesn't score 3 TDs and outgain your offense in a 24-21 victory; when travis henry doesn't bail out your rookie QB with 321 yards of rushing in two wins, when you realize it takes more than an inflated perspective of a thus far average (at best) QB to win games in the NFL, you'll see the titans crash land back on earth and their ignorant fans scamper like roaches when the light's turned on from the bandwagon. and i, for one, can't wait.
Statistics? Wins and loses baby, that is all that matters. And you can hate on Vince all you want, he is on his way to being the best player in the NFL - and yes, that includes the intangibles like leadership which EVERY coach talks about but which you poo poo.... Whatever ! Just admit you were wrong..... DD
OK Da Da time to chill out a little bit, Vince is from Houston and the University of Texas so I know all of us have strong opinions about him and we think because many of us have followed him since high school we know how good he will be. This is just not the case, yes I wanted the Texans to draft VY but they didnt and by not doing so it does not mean the Texans are doomed and heck as of right now we might have a better qb anyway. FYI, Vince is not the best player in the NFL now nor will he be. He is one of the best athletes now and because of his natural talent he has a great shot to be a top level qb just under the Peyton's and Brady's of the NFL but without a top tier arm he will never be considered the top nfl qb so of course he wont be the best player. Vince WILL be a pro bowl player again and WILL win many games but just take your bias for him off the table for a second than look at the whole picture and then I don't think you will make those statements.
i'll keep that in mind this year as the titans drop a giant 6-10 in your lap. so you're advocate using something as universally stupid as team wins to rate an individual? well, if so, that places vince firmly as the second best player... in his division. meanwhile, yes - leadership remains the domain of the richard justice's of the world; ie the crutch of knowledgeless, lazy hacks. we'll see how much "leadership" means when the titans are crashing into the earth's atmosphere after a 2-5 start.
Rex Grossman must be one of the top five quarterbacks in the game - after all, he consistently wins and they even made the Super Bowl! As for Vince being on his way to being the best player in the NFL, let's let him post a QB rating above 70 first.
uhm, no. notice, nowhere did i say they'd be better than the texans; just that their 2006 season was a fluke, not a preview of things to come.
I know...I was just kidding with ya. But Carr still had a respectable passer rating ranked 15th in the NFL, just saying that QB ratings aren't great indicators. Unless you think that Damon Huard is the 2nd best QB in the NFL.
Huard's was from about half the season himself. There are certainly flukes, like there are to almost all statistics, but by and large, it's a solid indicator. Now, I think Vince will get better, but I'm just saying it's premature to talk about some inevitable rise to best QB in the league status.
Part of the excitement for me next season is watching the Titans crash and burn. Thats the only way the VY hoopla will chill out a little bit. Mentally, I need that.
qb rating is by no means perfect; but it's a fair indication of how well a QB is playing; in fact, rarely does qb ratings not match up with league-wide standings. case in point, of the 7 super bowls from this decade, 5 have featured a QB that finished in the top 5 in QB rating. twice, both QBs were in the top 5 ('05 and '02). delving even deeper, since 2003, every single top 5-rated QB's team had a .500 or better record save for one (bulger in 2005). the combined record of the top 5 finishers between '06-'03 is 221-99. you don't see many highly-rated qbs playing on bad teams or lowly-rated qbs playing on good teams. there are expecetions, sure - like i said: it's not perfect. but wins and qb ratings far more often than not align. more proof that the game is better measured by its whole rather than its individual parts.
what does ratings have to do with crap? Did ratings mean anything when Robert Horry hit heroic shots to win 6 championships? its about making plays, being a HERO. Where are the Texan's heroes? Do they have any Robert Horrys on the Texans? or are they just a bunch of BONZI WELLS! People like HEROES. thats why Vince has 2 MNF games. No MNF for Hero-less teams.
yeah MNF games = championships Look Vince had a very, very nice rookie season but the goal is a championship and the last time I checked running qb's don't win super bowls.
he's a hero, and not just in Houston. so therefore he's on MNF. John Elway, Steve Young, they all ran. Dan Marino never won a superbowl. like i said, its about Heroes. David Car.. NOT A HERO.
