This really sucks. He was a great Texan. I understand it , though. I was at the Buffalo game when he tore his ACL about 4 years ago. I was sitting just a few rows up, against the tunnel. He left the field right before half. As he was leaving, I yelled something like, "Come on Owen, we need you!" and he looked up with a sad smirk, and I knew he was done for the year...
not surprised. tweets came out yesterday saying owen wanted to stay with team, felt he has earned right to play out his contract, and was willing to restructure in order to do so.
Last remaining player from the 2006 class. (Mario Williams, DeMeco Ryans, Charles Spencer, Eric Winston, Owen Daniels, Wali Lundy, David Anderson) With McCain gone, Cushing the only remaining player from the 2009 class. (Brian Cushing, Connor Barwin, Antoine Caldwell, Glover Quin, Anthony Hill, James Casey, Brice McCain, Troy Nolan)
Thanks for the scoop. It was reported by the media that OD would take less, but the truth is the Texans are totally f'd with their cap, and they will have to start making hard decisions soon. Owen Daniels is a Texans for life and wish him the best elsewhere. He wont remain a FA for long.
Gonna miss those TD celebrations. He was one of our few money guys in the red zone. I hope Graham/Griffin can pick up the production.
Good Luck OD. I'll miss your 5 yard catches in the middle of the field on 3rd down when we needed 6 yards. Not your fault.
Getting Cushing, Barwin, Quin, and Casey is definitely up there as one of the best drafts in our team's history. I don't see where there's an argument...
Of those, only Cushing is really any good but it wasn't a very deep class anyway. Barwin had one good year but isn't anything special, Quin is decent but no one is going to confuse him for a great safety, and Casey is intriguing but not really useful...in fact, it wouldn't be surprising in the least if he gets cut.
Name me two that were better.... We'll miss you, Owen. He had some of the strongest hands on the team, and could be called upon to make some unbelievable difficult catches. Unfortunately, this team is in dire straits, and we can't afford to hang onto players out of sentimentality. It's the end of an (all too short) era of winning Texans football. Tell Kubes we said sup.
Maybe it doesn't say much but '06 and '09 were absolutely two of their better draft classes. http://www.pro-football-reference.com/teams/htx/draft.htm
