He's still a very good player - sack numbers are terrible measures of overall performance since they reflect less than 1% of a player's snaps. But he's also old and injury-prone, and not the elite player he once was. He'll still be a valuable player whereever he goes - just not a $17MM valuable player.

Watt wasted his professional career and is now trying his last ditch effort in his twilight years to make an AFC championship game, much less the super bowl.

Watson is trying to avoid Watt's fate. How do you know Watt didn't recommend to Watson to prioritize his own career instead of wasting it away here?

This is what we wanted for JJ and Deshaun with all the tomfoolery going around in the inner covenant. After the turkeyday game but before the suspensions, we were looking forward to the off season thinking the charlatan would also be gone. We'd come up with ways to clear up cap space w/o touching Watt because the mcnair family loved him too much to actually think they would realistically release him and do the right football move, let him go to a winner and sign three nice fa signings on defense while retaining Fuller

He had a HOF career already and he's one of the most respected athletes in Houston history....Watson is doing his best to avoid those things

His career was hardly 'wasted'. He is the most beloved Houston sports figure since Earl Campbell and Hakeem Olajuwon. He parlayed our trust in him to $230 million fund for Harvey victims and got to host SNL.

Not everyone can win a championship in a team game and he was unfortunate to play in the Tom Brady era

Did you just laugh at them and hang up?

I think most aren't upset they released him short of the few folks that thought his contract was tradeable. It's that ownership let it get to a point so untenable that none of the current faces of the franchise want to be here any longer and former faces of the franchise are being very vocal.

This hurts. I knew he wouldn't be a Texan next year, but still.

The McNairs need to sell the team. There is absolutely no reason to root for the Texans.

Tom Brady had no impact on JJ Watt not winning a Superbowl...

Yea...come to Dallas if you never want to win anything!

Personally, I think the Cowboys would be better off drafting defensive players. I think JJ is another injury waiting to happen and his best playing days are behind him.

Doesn't give him the best chance to win. At this point in his career super bowl has to be number 1 goal.

Dumbass franchise. A tradeable asset. Watt basically gave up on our team and u let him free for nothing. All these fkers who like this move and btch about Watson r basically hypocrites. I don't give a fk if he played his time, giving him up for free doesn't help the Texans whatsoever. He didn't honor his contract so screw him. When he retires I will celebrate him for making the HOF, but he gave up on the team while still on contract and u fkers give him a free pass.

funny how u see none of that energy for Watt, but it’s to be expected...Why is Watt wanting to leave? He signed a contract, so he needs to honor it. Oh wait...

You are no better than McNair or Easterby. Watt asked for his release...you were not getting more than a 5th. He gave everything to the team and city. He asked you for a request so he control where he goes to finish his career. Texans do him a solid. The ONE thing they have done RIGHT for months.

Watson is a different situation. False equivalency.

They were just a few moves away and they blew it all up.
