Any NFL team serious about making the playoffs would have already replaced Frank Bush. Seriously, how can he still have a job?
Good points, let me try to say this better- They started their first series trying to establish the run, as they have done on each starting series this season. They showed last season they won more and were more effective by starting out getting Schaub going. He is a rythmn passer and when they scheme their short passing game on first down and get in a rythmn they are much more effective running later in the game. I think they are far better when they get Schaub going instead of trying to get the run going. They need to scheme the offense to do this and they were successful late last season doing this. They gave up on the run against the Jets because the Jets have a front seven that is very good at stuffing the run.. just look at how they've handled the run this season. We do not have a power running attack. I still believe we will be successful over the course of a game by playing to the strength of our passing attack and letting the pass set up the run. Yes it would be nice to start out successfully running and then use play action. But if you carefully watch the team they are most effective passing even if the other team knows they have to pass. How many times do they fall behind and then start moving the ball when they have to rely on the passing attack? I agree it is a great offense, but I was referring to scheming the attack more to the strength of the offense- great receivers, excellent passing attack/scheme- truth is when we have to move the ball (we are usually behind) we revert to our passing attack and run very little- We need to scheme this offense to get Schaub going in rythmn and get the receivers going also, use some screens; take advantage of the TE for short gains, get Andre going on that killer short slant etc. Heck, mix in the 3 step drop with the 4 yard completion, all of that will open up the running game. true Better play some defense and quit blowing running assignments and over pursuing plays. Oakland has a running game.
Well, they're currently 20th in yards per game and 21st in yards per rush... which, granted, puts them behind Jets, Titans and Jags...but only because they haven't played us yet. Somehow, despite having played us, the Titans are only 6th in yards per game with the Jets and Jags tied for 10th. You would think they'd be 1,2, and 3.
who cares? we're not; we're 1-2 and could just as easily be 2-1. it's a pointless exercise. are we still talking about the texans....? where is all this animosity for the offense coming from? i mean, i'll grant you they have BIG problems on defense... but offensively, they've been consistently good for awhile and if these last two games are indicitive of anything, it looks like they've learned how to score in the red zone. unless its tennessee. i'll grant you, it's not a recipe for success - trying to outscore each opponent. but the offense is just fine.
The only argument to this I would make is that the offense DOES need some work in regards to a running game. They're third worst in rushing yards per game. Granted, on the whole it is still a good offense, and the two teams with fewer rushing yards per game are also good offenses in teh Chargers and Cardinals. It's certainly not hugely worrisome. Unfortunately, there can't possibly be that much time available to Gary to focus on improving that aspect of the team since the defense needs so much work.
You're saying the defense would suck regardless of the coordinator? The only problem with that argument is the Texans are giving up almost exactly 100 more yards per game than last season, and have fallen from 22nd to dead last in the entire league, and that's with the addition of a first round draft pick. The defense has clearly regressed and that's on the new guy in charge.
Draft DT and Secondary ONLY next year!@ Please! We are guilty of being exposed on weaknesses and this leads to big plays. Our weakness on CB (Bennett), safeties and Int. Lineman is glaring. Bush has the right idea to attack, and it shows when we make solid stops, but it also is a philosophy unconducive to skill-absent players....
Personally, I would like for the Texans to demote Kubiac to offensive coordinator, and hire John Gruden for head coach.
Kubiak has been give enough chances......No winning season this year and he should be gone. He gets outcoached waaaay too often.
