negatory, chargers will have 1st round bye most likely...its either cincinnati or new england, 75% chance of it being the bengals

The NFL has been so unpredictable the past few years that it is a distinct possibility. They have now beat the Eagles, Bengals, Steelers, & Broncos. All are solid teams, but with flaws. Ravens fall into that category as well. If the Raiders can keep the game close until the 4th quarter, I can easily see Flacco continuing his ineptitude in that quarter.

The Texans have the tiebreaker over the Steelers, so they're irrelevant to us as competition. Want them to be as motivated as possible for next week.

Anyone done the analysis on what happens if the Ravens, Broncos, and Texans all finish 9-7? I can see that as a very realistic scenario

I think Charlie P says it goes to the Ravens, perhaps due to division records?

Texans lose on conference record tiebreaker. The only team the Texans would beat at 9-7 in a tiebreaker is Pittsburgh.

    STEELERS!

Again, this is a very good thing for the Texans.

Gotcha. So if the Steelers win out as well as the Texans, we still finish ahead of them.

It might not matter, but for a team with as much pedigree as the Steelers, I could really see them shutting it down mentally if they were eliminated from playoff consideration.

    How's that?

Cause the steelers have something to play for against our wildcard competition?

Can someone explain why we have the edge over the Steelers if we tie them?

So... In order for the Texans to make the playoffs...

Denver has to lose their last two games. (they lost tonight so now they're 8-6)

    OR

Baltimore has to lose their last two games.

    ALSO...

the Jets have to lose (they play the Colts next week)
Miami (who the Texans play next week)
Titans (who play the Chargers next week)
and Jacksonville (who plays New England next week)

I think the Texans have the tiebreaker over Pittsburgh so it doesn't matter about them.

    Mm... tough.

From what Im seeing, for the tie-breaker rules...it goes down to the "strength of victory" between us and the Steelers (because we will have the same conference record and we dont have enough common opponents). Someone correct me if thats not correct.

If the Steelers win out, they would have wins against:
    Titans
    Chargers
    Lions
    Browns
    Vikings
    Broncos
    Packers
    Ravens
    Dolphins

    If we win out:
    Titans (same as Steelers)
    Raiders
    Bengals
    49ers
    Bills
    Seahawks
    Rams
    Dolphins (same as Steelers)
    Patriots

If this is the case, the Steelers have the edge over us...the combined record of the teams they have beat is much better than ours.

    Next weeks prediction:

    Balt lose to Pitts
    Den lose to Philli
    Jets lose to Indy
    Ten lose to SD
    WE BEAT MIAMI

Which means we have a shot because I say a 50% chance that either Bal or Den will lose the last game of the season.

Still we have a 10% shot at the playoffs.

BUT WE ARE NOT A GOOD TEAM FROM THE DISPLAY TODAY.

I just hope we play well in the Redzone next weekend....
