My understanding is that in addition to a Houston win, we need 2 of the following 3 teams to lose next week: Broncos Ravens Jets If that is accurate, I'd say it's pretty amazing considering how dismal things looked just a couple of weeks ago. Even after the win last week, we were at the bottom of that pack of 7-7 teams. A lot has gone our way recently - probably as much as any reasonable person could ask for.
According to the Yahoo playoff scenario thing.... Texans get in if they win and either the Broncos OR Ravens lose and the Jets lose to the Bengals...
So, if the Broncos and the Ravens lose but the Jets win, we don't get in? Unless I'm missing something, that doesn't make sense. We'd have a flat out better record than both the Broncos and the Ravens in that scenario, assuming a win against NE.
i think that's half correct. with a Texans win, we need a combination of 2 of these 3 teams to lose: Jets, Broncos, Ravens. if the Colts didn't go into "rest" mode, we could have been talking only needing either the Broncos or Ravens to lose.
I got this from Queen Solomon's blog: http://www.playoffstatus.com/nfl/texansclinch.html It confirms what macalu said above. Here is the relevant excerpt: So, technically, we can still win either WC spot but to get the #5 spot, we'd need to win in addition to all 3 of the Jets, Ravens and Broncos losing. If we win and any 2 of those 3 teams lose, we'd get the #6 spot. Again, it's amazing we're even having this conversation. We're still alive.
F these colts. They didn't have enough with us. Rosencopter, 17-0 choke, chris brown choke and you couldn't help us with one thing. F YOU BIG TIME>
Bengals/Jets got the Sunday night game while the Cowboys/Eagles got the prime 3:15 spot...I though we had a shot at the 3:15 slot, sucks, so I guess we might now what happens in Texan land till late Sunday night...
Im still fuming about the Colts...they really screwed us. I mean, having a situation where we would just need the Ravens OR the Broncos to lose...that sounds so much better than the crap situation we have ourselves in right now.
That is good news for the Texans. The Bengals will know whether they have a chance to move up the third seed before they play. If the Patriots lose to the Texans, Cincinnati would move up a spot if they beat the Jets. A 3rd seed and 4th seed really doesn't matter a lot but it may to them and they could player their starters more as a result. If Bengals get the 3rd seed, they could get a shot at the Chargers a team they know they could with after their game last week.
What the Colts did was cheat their fans and their colleagues. There are unspoken rules amongst owners and management types when it comes to games like this. When you are in a game that has playoff implications you play to win the game not rest your players. I hope in future seasons it's the Colts needing help from other teams to squeak into the playoffs only to have the other team offer them similar courtesy. Enough ranting...So far everything has gone to plan as far as the help Houston has needed. Now we need some miracle upsets to occur and of course we have to play "4 Quarters" of solid football to beat NE, who BTW will not be resting their starters.
This simply isn't true. Teams rest their starters all the time in games that have playoff implications for other teams. The penalty for not winning early is that the Texans have to rely on other teams and other games, many of whom have other agendas than simply winning. That's not those teams' fault, and it's not their responsibility to do anything other than what's best for their teams. It's always been this way, and it's no different just because the Texans are involved.
I agree, F the Colts. Jerks gave a win away today. I would feel a lot better needing only one team to lose instead of two, but at least they play Cincy next week. Major's right too, we shouldn't have blown so many games earlier in the season. Its hard not to get excited seeing how there is hope. Most likely miracle would be Oakland eeking out another win vs Baltimore and Cincy beating the Jets. While the Broncos/Chiefs game is a division game, I don't see Denver losing. Crazier things have happened I suppose. Either way, none of it matters if we can't beat NE. We will have our hands full and will need to see the fourth complete game from our guys. One half won't cut it vs Belicheck.
Quit whining about the Colts. This isn't like college where the conference gets more money if more teams are in bowl games. The Colts don't give a s*** about the Texans and it's not up to them to help the Texans. The Texans are the only reason they're even in this position. How about...don't lose 4 straight? Don't blow 17-0 leads? Play an entire 60 minutes? Do those things and no one gives a s*** about what the Colts are doing.
Not in game #15. Not halfway thru a third quarter where your offense has NOT looked sharp. It was very unorthodox.
That's simply because most teams haven't locked up homefield throughout the playoffs before game #15. The Colts managed to do so, so they get that luxury.
I feel for you guys. I like the Texans. You guys should of at least beat the Jaguars once this season. You guys have the most potential of all the 8-7 teams btw.
How about being mad at the Texans loss to the Jets in game 1? Texans had weeks to prepare for that game and were going up against a rookie QB and lost at home. All losses are meaningful...but that loss stings more now.
