5 of the steelers 8 sacks were recorded by DBs (you do realize polamalu's a safety, right?); the other three came from LBs. of the 13 sacks allowed this year, DEs have accounted for all of 3. teams are blitzing the hell out of the texans because our QB is a deer caught in headlights right now. but what do you or i know? take the word of players who actually play in the nfl. bills and steelers both said carr was shellshocked, that he tucked and ran when he didn't have to, screamed at his linemen and generally made things easier for them. carr is ruined, imo. maybe a new coach, new scheme, new line could salvage him.... but i think it's too late. he looks like a vietnam vet who goes into hypershock whenever a car backfires. on plays when he does have time to throw, he often doesn't step up in the pocket, doesn't progress through his reads and bails earlier than he should. did you see any of the JAX/IND game, btw? leftwich stays in the pocket until the last possible second, even when he knows he's going to be blasted. carr panics, runs for the sidelines and then whines like a petulant child. but even if it IS the OL... there are still glaring red flags about carr's game: he lacks pocket presence, he lacks natural instincts, and he doesn't play very smart. forcing a ball into triple coverage just to try and get AJ the ball is dumb. running out of bounds and losing yardage instead of throwing the ball away is dumb. taking too long at the line of scrimmage to make a read and change a play is dumb. yes, the OL is awful. but carr isn't helping them, either. it's a total failure at practically every level. i'm even starting to wonder whether AJ is great, considering he can't seem to get open and teams can so easily neutralize him. i mean, at this stage... everything should be questioned.
Zach Weigert, Jabar Gaffney, Seth Payne, Morlon Greenwood, Philip Buchanon, Corey Bradford, Don Capers, Toro, David Carr
Ric, you make some good points about pocket presence. I don't know if its too late for him to develop coupled with the fact that the offensive line isn't good. I remember the radio guys would talk about how well David took sacks his first season, that he really didn't get hit head on. He knew how to not get hurt, but ducking or whatever. In hindsight, that may have actually hurt him, it looks like it has caused some bad habits.
To be overrated, doesn't somebody have to think that you're a good player? I don't think that's the case here.
and that's what worries me - the things i'm noticing are taught and they can't be learned; you either have 'em, or you don't. he doesn't. that's he's absorbed a beating every week the past three years have only made his shortcomings worse.
is it at all possible to trade Carr for a first round pick? We could then pick up a new quarterback and then whatever else we need in the first round... like a offensiveline man or wide receiver or running back.
Let's see, we've already tried building that way before it would be retarted to try it again. If we did move Carr, let's focus on building the foundation first (O-line) then putting the roof on the house. Texans management reallyf#%^$$ up the first time , were they to repeat the same mistake, I may turn in my fan card.
