that's my memory of it, too. people were in disbelief. they didn't believe he'd move. he had threatened before...and after all, we were still paying the interest on the loans to improve the Dome that kept him from leaving just a few years before that.

then you look up and he signs an exclusive agreement to negotitate only with Nashville. it was too late. there was never a referendum here. the people never got a say.

but for 8 straight years before they became lame-duck, they sold out the Astrodome at 110% capacity. this was reason #1 in the Oilers' Coopers & Lybrand prepared report of WHY they needed a new stadium to begin with.

Not exactly the same thing. If the Patriots fan base had a lot of people who were born in England when the team was named, it might be a better comparison.

what are the NFL rules with regards to uniform changes and adding alternate unis?

in the MLB, you have to wait a minimum number of years before you can change your logo and ****, and in the NBA, it's something similar. in addition, the NBA had this rule limiting the number of times you could wear a retro/hardwood throwback jersey.

it would seem to be a big boon for profits if the Texans came out with another uni.

speaking of which - why don't the Rockets have an alternate road jersey (black) yet?

These are by far my favorites . I loved the way the team looked wearing them last year . If they have to wear the blue all the time as their dark jersey , stick with solid blue .

Do you remember the ill-fated "save our oilers" rally?

For a city so *bent* out of shape.. people sure did take it lying down.

unlike people in cleveland, houstoninans have lives and are not going to go to some rally to save a team. also, I don't think people realized how much they would miss a team until they lost one.

why do you think the rockets got a new arena? you can argue because they won but losing the oilers really helped the astros and rockets get new stadiums.

Yes, it was at City Hall...at 10am....on a Tuesday morning...and it was not publicized AT ALL beforehand. Seeing it on the news later that day was the first most Oiler fans (myself included) even knew there was supposed to be a rally.

Of course, ESPN and the rest of the national media were there to see it. They were probably tipped off beforehand. Almost as if the whole thing was setup to go down just like it did so the rest of the country would think Houston didn't care about the Oilers...

The problem is not the uniforms, it is with the players in them. The name is fine, colors fine, past management, not fine. But a tweak in color or design wouldn't hurt, but not until the team makes a turn for the better. Then, mark it with a change of some kind.

Yeah. Sometimes small groups get their way even if they're opinion isn't always indicative of the group they're supposed to be representing. I would guess that a more powerful organization like the Texas (as opposed to the Dynamo) would be less likely to bow to such pressure. They obviously didn't bow to the demands of the VYOF. :D

We could have also went with a gun theme like the old Colt .45's. However, i still like Death Star since it has to do with space and we are rebuilding for the future. ;)

If there was public pressure to keep the Oilers, the mayor would have responded. There wasn't.
