Let's stay away from the generalizations. I went to the supposed last game the year before they left and then the last game the year they left.. got Del Greco's autograph at one of them. Stayed late after the final game.. hmm got Chris Sanders' (the next badass receiver, you know) autograph too. And yeah, followed the team until the Texans came around. But all I miss are the colors, the name, the song...the players have retired, the coaches have moved on (well, almost), etc. So I'm good with the Texans. But yes, I definitely cared when they left On the thread topic...I'd be for it only because the first image when I think of a Texans white uniform is DC #8.. so if he's so identifiable to me w/that one, let's steer away from it
Never considered how the name Texans isolates the team, that makes sense... Much better than the Apollos though. Sounds too minor league There's been a few people over here in California including my manager when I mentioned the Texans being my team they've either said oh okay new team huh (during their first year), or their uniforms look nice. I'm down for a slight change like the one's mentioned just for the sake of changing, but its not like opinions of the current uni's from non-Texans fans have been bad.
That was my biggest arguement against the name when they chose it. I'm way over that now. The name is fine. At the time I was a proponent of the Houston Hurricaines and a Red/White/Black color scheme. I never liked Apollos. I think the whole "It has to continue the space theme" is ridiculous. The only team who used NASA as inspiration were the Astros. I'm not neccesarily opposed to a "space" name, I just thought the name Apollos sucked and didn't want to settle just because it had a space connection. Mustangs/Stallions or whatever the other finalist was is just too generic to even really be considered. Anyway, changing the unis 5 years in is stupid. I don't want to be one of these teams that changes their unis every 4-5 years. The only change I would make is to always wear white pants (instead of blue) with the white jerseys.
If we're debating the name again, it should have been the 36ers. But compared to Apollos and Stallions, Texans is pretty good.
Yeah! A big picture of Kramer would suffice for the logo. David Carr would have fit the team nickname then.
Ahh, you forget the Houston Texans of the 1974-75 World Football League (they were only in Houston for 11 games). The one with the big green and gold, lower case "h" on the state of Texas as the logo. They were later the Shreveport Steamer... For what it's worth, My submission to the NFL2002 name contest was the Houston Generals, with the Sam Houston silhouette in the logo, on a red, black, silver and white color scheme...
Ehh. The Sixers and Niners are enough. How much would it suck if there were a plethora of ##'er teams. Besides, the Mexicans would get offended and protest.
I didnt get offended, I know other mexican people didnt get offended by that, the only person who get offended was the "spokesperson" of the mexican people in houston.
Tight White is the best uniform color scheme.... <a href="http://photobucket.com" target="_blank"><img src="http://i54.photobucket.com/albums/g90/ignacio713/011campbell810jets1.jpg" border="0" alt="Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket"></a> <a href="http://photobucket.com" target="_blank"><img src="http://i54.photobucket.com/albums/g90/ignacio713/011earl1.jpg" border="0" alt="Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket"></a>
I like our home uniforms a lot, but it would be nice if we would actually wear them every once in a while...
I disagree. I lived in the Houston area at the time, and the beef was with Bud Adams, not the Oilers. Folks were *bent* that our team was moving to Nashville.
