There was another incarnation of the Dallas Texan's that became the Baltimore (now Indy) colts. FWIW, I like the name. If they had gone with some silly animal name or something, I'd be pissed. IMO, Texas has enough history and pride to name a team after themselves. Just my opinion.
Agreed. I really thought they could have come up with a more creative name. I'm proud to live in Texas. However, from a marketing view, i think we isolate fans from every other state by calling ourselves the Houston Texans. Every NFL fan has a couple other teams he occasionally roots for. I would find it harder to root for teams called the Oakland Californians, Philadelphia Pennsylvanians, or Miami Floridians. It would only make a tad more sense if we actually drafted more people from Texas...like Vince Young! As for the uniforms, i always thought the bottom one whomikejames posted looks an awful like the Denver Broncos uniform. I still like that one second best to the battle red. Seems everyone loves the battle red jerseys.
Philadelphia Phillies... sounds fine to me. I much prefer Houston Texans to Houston Stallions or Mustangs or whatever the hell they were thinking of naming the team.
Houston Texans sounds good. Imo the name only sounds bad because of how bad we've been on the field. When people hear Texans they automatically associate the name with: Losing, Sacks, No Reggie Bush, No Vince Young As for the jerseys I love the Battle Red and all white. The blue to me is boring and it shouldn't be the primary color. Like Faos said, it's linked to losing. Reminds me too much of the old Rockets jerseys.

We could go sci-fi channel space theme on the league. The Houston Stargate Program! The best players would be designated SG-1. The O-Line could be designated Stargate Atlantis. Since they're never there and not that good Or maybe The Houston BattleStar Galactica! Or The Houston Deathstar! I'd go with Deathstar......

I like that much better than the "Texans". At least Apollos would go with the whole space theme and it is less lame than the Texans. I actually had an argument with Jon Clayton from ESPN about this on an airplane. He supported the name Texans and claimed it could also fit with other states such as Sacramento Californians or Honolulu Hawians. He sounded like an idiot
I personally liked the all blue unis the best. There is nothing wrong with "Texans" as the name. Some of you convientely forget the pain the Oilers caused many many many times.
the Houston Apollos would have been a little too ethnic. i hate the steel blue and i hate the stupid bull. too late to change the latter, unfortunately.

And I'm 50/50 on the Rockets just because they just kept the name when the moved from San Diego. It wasn't intentional but yeah, it fits with the Astros. It's funny that nobody thinks about the Comets anymore. Not really.
