Actually, I was talking about the dumb a$$ bench press test, but the Wunderlich is pretty stupid as well. In fact 80% of the tests the combine use are next to worthless. I think the Titans will take either VY or D'Brick.
Agreed...Or a Ricky Williams type offer...Now, let's hope someone is dumb enough to pull it off, I mean, besides us...
Trading the pick will be the shrewdest thing to do after all. After the dust settles, I hope coach Cube and Bob McNair realize that all emotions and pressures must be kept of check. I believe we will get descent offers - I am glad Bush, Leinert and Young all had great pro days. With the kind of offense Cube and Denver has been running for ages, we do not need Young or Bush. Davis is more than enough - we need to add another defensive stud of O-lineman and be set to make a serious SB push in 2 or 3 years. Great backs come out every year. More go into FA as well. Same goes for QBs. It takes a team that is sound on both sides of the line and you do not find these kind of line talent especially O-line in the FA or every draft (ask Casserly). The game is won and lost in the trenches. Wins will put more butts in the sits that one star attract as well. I hope prudence and common sense prevail in the end. [Paul Tag]With the first........Texans selec.......errr....Trade trade the first pick to.........for wow....[/Paul Tag]
The only way I would trade our first pick is if we trade with the Jets and get their first round picks this year and next year's number one. I would then draft D'brick with the first and Maroney with the second number 1 (I read that he's the ideal running back for the zone offense). But being realisitic no way Maroney falls that far in the draft so then I would pick up another offensive lineman or someone on the defensive side. I would then hope the Jets suck this year and get a top 5 pick next year and trade both our number 1's in 2007 to get Adrian Peterson whom IMHO is more of an ideal running back than Bush. Since I doubt either situations are going to play out I opted to think what it would be like if we just drafted Bush this year. True, I agree that games are won and lost in the trenches. I also believe you don't need a stud tackle but a unit of hard working players who can get the system. Besides, I believe this draft is the deepest o-line draft in recent memory and was convinced after reading some of their profiles in drafthistory.com. Let's see, there's so much talent that could drop in the second/third round that we could draft two second tier offensive line talents this year instead of just one stud. Guys like Colledge(Boise), O' Callaghan(Cal), Trueblood (BC), Scott (UT), Whitworth (LSU), McNeil (Auburn), Winston (Miami), Strief (Northwestern) are likely to drop in the second/third rounds. Most of them are huge 6'5 and above and play with a mean streak. IMHO they would be suitable upgrade over Wand. Anyways, why doesn't anyone believe we can't win the SB in 2-3 years if we draft a player of Bush's caliber? You're right, "good" running backs come out every year, but elite running backs come out once every 100 years (with the exception of this year and possibly next if Adrian Peterson comes out). I would rather have a good offensive line and one elite running back than one elite tackle with a good line and a decent running back.(plus, Davis is injury prone) With the aquisition of Moulds and several other free agents I believe this team is certainly on the verge of the playoffs this year and has a shot at the SB afterwards (I believe that all depends on how well they continue to draft this year and next as well). Can you imagine the mismatches when we field an offense with the likes of Johnson, Moulds, Mathis, Putzier/healthy Joppru and Bush/Davis???? Defensive coordinators are going to come in to Sunday's games against the Texans with high concentrations of caffeine in their blood. If anything, I for one want to see more offense this year and believe the longer we keep the offense on the field, the fresher the defense will be which in turn can help win games. From McNair's standpoint it would be a win/win situation to draft Bush. Kubiak and company did good this year in free agency and plugged many holes on both sides of the ball. With Bush, he can sell tickets and win games with the kind of offense they put on the field.
healthy Joppru ? Is this a pipedream? This guy hasn't set field for more than 1 practice. He's been injured for 2 years.
the Texans mascot can be our QB for all i care, in any case we have plenty of options to run on offense and it will make for an interesting year to actually get points on the board.
Bag0b0y, You make very good points but I am almost certain that this team cannot win or contend seriously for the SB in 2-3 years. Like NR stated below, what we have now is a mirage. I fear the protejected bebefit of RB is merely an illusion - that we might regret picking him sooner rather than later. Great lines (either side) are about the ways team can build long term success. I trully believe we can win a SB with Dorminick Davies. If he could rack up those yards with the maligned O-line we paraded in the past, can you imagine how successful he and Carr would be if we [lets say] add a "D'Brick? I will keep my fingers crossed. I agree. This reminds me of how I felt before the Rox season started - I thought we were deep -I thought we had assembled the right parts but I sadly found out that we had more holes than imagined and that what I thought was good enough was just a mirage. I hope the powers that be don't get carried away from the sexiness of Bush or Young, or fan/media pressure to consider seriously dropping down. The obligation to their fans is to build a winning team that will last over a long course of time. The formular to adhere to heart while prosecuting that mandate is seeking long term assets first and getting them in quantity if possible. It is my opinion that Bush is not a special kind of a back like Barry Sanders or special [period] enough to be considered an absolute no-brainer. I loved his electricity in college (so also did I love Desmond Howard's of Wolverine fame) and I will not feel guilty if he goes on to be exciting for another team since I know that would mean we added more long term assets at his expence.
Does anybody remember Johnny Rogers? Few could have been more dominating in college football but as a pro... mediocre.
