I agree, their system really sucks. I like how the XFL did overtime. Basically, each team got a chance to score starting at the 20 yard line. If Team 1 scored in two plays, than Team 2 has to match them and score in two plays. In fact, there are lots of rules that the NFL could steal from the XFL and use it in their system.
they don't need to do that, its gimmicky imo. to me the best thing about the nfl system, even though you play for the field goal is that all aspects of the game or involved, punting, kick offs etc. to me if they really want to change it, there should be a medium between playing the whole period and sudden death.
Football is an exhausting sport so playing the whole period every OT game is probably unreasonable. Shortening the time period from 15 to say 10 or 5 would bring out the same complaints from teams with no defense who lose the coin flip. I guess the NFL can be like the NCAA and give every team a possession. Wouldn't want to hurt anyones feelings. There are no losers. Lets hold hands while we're at it.
The Texans have been in six OT games in 83 tries. OT games are so rare that if they have to play an extra quarter once a year, I think they could handle it.
