I think he's safe this year and next. If the Texans don't make the playoffs next season, Kubiak is probably gone.
The jump ball is a terrible comparison. First of all, jump balls to start overtime don't usually make much of an impact on the ultimate winner. Second, even if it did, leaping is a skill that can be acquired on your roster. There's no skill you can acquire for a coin flip. Second, what suddenly makes defense more important than offense? So, you say a good defense should be able to get a stop, even without allowing the other team into field goal range. Well, a good offense at the NFL level should be able to get a minimum of 3 points on a given drive. Why should the defense be the only one penalized with losing the game? By your logic, why not say if you don't score on offense, you lose?
Matt Schaub is a freaking man. He endeared himself to me big time today. Big performance for him. Sorry the team came up short, but the offense looked tons better...the defense looked better too. I don't know if we caught Jax on a bad day or if we just own Jax anyway. I'm reminded that in Carr's last crap-tastic season, he threw up big numbers against the Jags, too.
90% of practice next week should be spent doing tackling drills. That was inexcusable. I've seen junior college players who could tackle better than the Texans this week.
Thank you, The Cat for making the case against current OT... Its almost such a terrible system that no argument need be made, but apparently some people need it spelled out for them I guess. The only people I can understand supporting the system as is are players who just want to go the eff home.
When did that happen? I thought that Taylor might have had a pretty messed up knee after he limped off the field, but he turned out allright. Did anybody see the hit on Anquan Boldin?
Even though we lost, it kind of felt like a win. Seeing Schaub run the offense so smoothly was GREAT.
I remember him being down after making a hit.. sometime in the 2nd half, pretty sure 4th quarter. That's the best I can remember at this point. Yeah glad Taylor is ok, didn't read an update on him. Nasty hit on Boldin..glad he's not seriously hurt
How come after watching the Texans lose, I can't wait for the Rockets to start the season? Slaton is our best offensive threat. What happened to A. Johnson? Has the injury cost him some speed? We need better linebackers around Ryans, and please get Reeves out of the secondary. Another D-Lineman who can disrupt like Mario is needed. We are seven years in and we still have too many holes. We need a really big offseason. I don't see this team making a playoff run, but I would gladly eat that if they could turn it around.
Travis Johnson is just awful. He gets absolutely no pressure on quarterbacks. I think the closest he's been to a QB in the past couple of years is when Trent Green took his ass out. Travis Johnson is such a fraud. He'll be the guy that falls on top of a pile and then get up acting like he just made 4th down stop to win the game (Anyone who saw the game today no that's not happenin). Not just to put the blame on him, but Okoye hasn't really been all that good either through three games. I know he's like 21 or 22, but we need someone else who will make the quarterback rush a throw. And we tackle like a bunch of punks. Whatever happened to puttin a hat on someone and driving your legs? I put my head down in disgust after watching that DeMeco Ryans "tackle" in overtime. I guess piss poor play really is contagious.
Strange game. We lost but I felt pretty good about it. At least we looked like a real NFL team for the first time this season. Offense looks like they are starting to get some rhythm, although the 3rd down playcalling was still pretty bad. Can we call something besides a screen on 3rd and long every once in a while? I mean, like maybe actually try to get the 1st down? We converted some 3rd and shorts, which was good, but why do we just give up on 3rd and long? Defense looked great in the first half. The only TD was against our special teams. But we fell apart in the 2nd half. If we're playing a QB who is a good scrambler, how about putting a spy on him? Especially on the last drive? You know, the drive that lost the game??? Richard Smith?? Bueller????? As it turns out, Kubiak lost the game by not calling a timeout on that 4th down conversion. Just horrible coaching. But like I said, at least the game was entertaining, unlike the first two.
strange comment... they faced 9 third downs sunday of 7 or more yards and converted 6 of them. the failures were 3rd and 18 (nearly impossible to convert in this league), 3rd and 13 and 3rd and 10 (which was followed by brown's game-tying FG, so they weren't actually making an effort to convert it, anyway). so take away that final one, and they went 6/8 on third downs of 7 or more yards.
