I would love him as our goal line back at the right price but not as our early down back.

i'd rather have LT than Chris Brown.. BUT..

how many times did LT get stuffed on consecutive carries to pick up one yard? I don't think they're all that different in short-yardage situations.

But I agree, LT is barely an NFL RB at this point...and Chris Brown is not one at all.

It really seemed like they were giving him some pity carries last year. He was getting like 1-2 ypc and theyd still give it to him in the goal line out of what I thought was loyalty. Then when they actually did pull him you would see him pacing the sideline or clearly bothered by it.

Has anyone done that well signing a vet HB?

I think they would be foolish not to pull the trigger
I don't think LT is done yet

He could teach our backs so much. I say he is worth a shot if there is not good back for us in the draft

the guy can still get in the endzone, he had 12 TDs on a playoff team last season. He obviously cannot be a starter anymore, but with a capable goal line back, the texans make the playoffs. If he is cheap, I say definitely, otherwise no way.

He could be sort of like Marcus Allen late in his career with the Chiefs. Wasn't much of an overall back that could carry the team, but was great in short yardage and at the goal line.

    Bingo.

Short yardage situations is where the Texans really struggled this season. If LT can be a guy that gets you a yard or two when you really need it, then he could be the short term solution to our glaring need for a short yardage back.

Actually, Ron Dayne was pretty good for us for a couple of years. He was not a long term solution, he was a short term solution. Another problem is that, like Chris Brown, we tried to use Dayne as a 2nd down back rather than a 3rd and short back. These guys cannot carry the load as a featured back.

So, in short, in response to me, you come up with three guys we did not even try to use as a short yardage specialist, one of which (Dayne) would have done well in that role for the short term.

What I was thinking. He has a LOT of mileage on him. As much as any back ever at his age. At BEST he can be a Marcus Allen type of back. New Orleans could be a great situation like that where no one person dominates the workload. I wouldnt give him more than 20 snaps in any game. Whatever he can get out of that, 10 carries, 4 catches, thats it.

but he didn't do that! At least by my observation in watching him this season.. he failed WAY too often to be considered a short-yardage back. Marginal upgrade over Chris Brown in that role (minus the fumbling)

LT is on the wrong side of 30 and I really see him being a significant upgrade over a Slaton/Foster duo. Our short yardage struggles could be equally attributed to our OL.

With that said, I'd take him for the right price. At this point in his career, he's still better than Green, Dayne, and Brown when we got them.

I really see Arian Foster being a featured back for this team. I think that Slaton's injury woes are much worse than we are being told. Foster showed us some good things late in the season and he may be developing into a good back. LT could give us some short yardage ability.

Using LT as a featured back, IMO, would be a disaster.

LT is cool but I would rather take our chances on the draft either in the first or 2nd round and get a running back for the next 5 to 8 years.

LT is a modern day legend for a RB, sure he is not a elite featured back type anymore, but he still can punch it in with the best of them inside the red zone.

That has always been his specialty, plus he is good at NOT fumbling. As a fellow 30 something, I'd of course favor taking him. He would add intangibles as well...

    One of 4 teams listed...

As a big fan of both and someone who has watched every Chargers and Texans game the last 7 years, I think the Texans need to pass on LT. I'm sorry but he just doesnt have it any more. He showed some ability inside the 10 yard line, but he was in no way elite in any way. The Texans can do much better and for a better price.

LdT would be a marketing move only. He's finished. Whether or not he's better than Chris Brown is like debating whether Adam Morrison could give you more than Bobby Simmons.

He'd be a joke as a short yardage back. He's done as an everydown back. Explosiveness is gone. Power is gone. Name is all that's left.

And to think just 4 seasons ago he was considered a football god. I'm going to miss him... :(
