I know it's a little off subject but Jerome Salomon is a TOOL then JS relies what a douche! Morey had this to say though
I am not an anti-front office person, but no, signing Bodden wouldn't placate me. The Texans were "close" to being a playoff team, but they were also "close" to being 7-9 again. They have holes to fill and I wish they would have been more aggressive in filling them. Bodden replaces Dunta, and as irritating as Dunta was last year and as good as Bodden was, there is no guarantee he will be better next season. They still have issues on the interior line on both o and d, still have pash rush problems, still need a cover safety, still need a running back... Still, I will be glad if they sign Bodden and I hope they draft well, but let's not forget that other teams around us get to draft players also.
Not to knock on your post man but the Texans IMO closer to being 11-5 last season than 7-9. They beat themselves in a lot of games in which they should have won and cost them their first chance in making the playoffs. I am not saying the Texans are the best team in the league but the holes are not that huge. Every team has room for improvement even the Saints and Colts. Just because the Texans are not spending money like the Bears it does not mean they are having a terrible offseason. If the Texans manage to sign Leigh Bodden, resign Daniels and Demeco while filling some of those needs in the draft I will consider it a solid offseason. I think people are jumping the gun way too early in the offseason and have expected huge signs early. Hell in an uncapped year Jerry Jones has only resigned Miles Austin.
Where did I say it was terrible? Sure it is a solid offseason. But for a franchise that has been so irrelevant now for its lifespan, I'm ready for more than solid. The Ravens got better. If the Bengals go get TO they will be better. They Jets have improved a little. We aren't doing anything to move us out of the pack of teams that will compete for the final playoff spot.
Not saying you said anything about terrible. I am mostly pointing out people who questioned why the Texans have not done anything to this point. The Ravens IMO didn't really get that much better, Boldin is more injury prone than Tmac. Personally I can't remember a meaningful game that he succeeded in. TO what has he done that led to wins for the teams he has been on? He is a drama queen that destroys team chemistry and if he joined the Bengals I would consider that a step back for the Bengals. The Jets have improved an already solid defense while probably losing their leading rusher to save a few million.
http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2010/03/08/leigh-bodden-is-still-in-houston/ Leigh Bodden is still in Houston Posted by Mike Florio on March 8, 2010 11:54 AM ET Plenty of you have asked for an update regarding free-agent cornerback Leigh Bodden. So here it is. There are no developments. That is all. Actually, there's more. We're told he's still in Houston and that there could be a development this afternoon. Or there could be no developments. That is all. This time I mean it.
True in a way but I don't think he played in the few playoff games that led to them making the superbowl. He did comeback from an injury and played in the superbowl. But before that the Eagles had been the NFC Championship game I believe 3 years in a row.
So if the offseason started all over again, and you were the GM, what move would you have attempted to make that hasnt happened yet for the Texans?
...but that "beating themselves" is part of the whole body of work. They could have just easily "beat themselves" in some of their wins, too. I don't believe they were any closer to 11-5 than they were to 7-9. I don't believe in "bad luck" -- you make your own "luck". Slaton had a real issue in his shoulder (or was it elbow?), didn't tell anybody, and went on a fumble frenzy when he should have been on the trainer's table. The Texans did nothing all year long about Kris Brown. These are ways in which they made their own bad luck. Not to mention calling on Chris Brown to pretend he was a freaking quarterback.
Check again. They had been to the NFC Championship game several times before, they won all of their playoff games *without* TO that year, and he made his heroic "cameo" appearance in a losing effort in the SB. The Eagles have since returned to the NFC Championship game *without* TO. Zero times anything is still zero. TO has so much talent it's hard to even quantify. If he wasn't such an amazing zero in character, we'd be comparing him to the greatest all time. But instead, he is nothing but a big, flashy, noisy zero.
TO is on the decline, hasn't been good since Philly, and has been a misfit everywhere he goes. The Bengals will only be better because of him since they were so terrible at WR last season outside of 85. There was only one Anquan Boldin to go around, and it's not like WR is a hole we needed to fill. We maintained our good corps of WR's by re-signing Walter. We're after arguably the top corner left on the market after choosing not to OVERPAY a guy who probably wasn't even our best corner last season. I'm not sure what you're looking for outside of that- any suggestions? The draft is where we can really improve ourself, by finding more Cushing's, Glover Quin's, and Slaton's ... players of great value for the pick we selected them at. Believe it or not we were a couple of 1 yard touchdown runs and a field goal kick or two away from making the playoffs last year. If we can plug the holes at DT and RB, and have a serviceable secondary, we are poised for a good season.
well stated. a reasonable post indeed. non-capped or no, it is pure stupidity to pay a cornerback who can't cover $10MM. I, for one, am glad the Texans aren't that stupid.
John McClain said Texans are still trying to sign Leigh Bodden and Wade Smith but nothing will happen tonight. 36 minutes ago via txt
