http://www.myfoxhouston.com/dpp/sports/100307-texans-to-meet-with-bodden-houston Mark Berman reporting of course... Looks like Bodden is the Texans for the taking if they are willing to give up about 5mil/per...
Per his interview on fox tonight said somthing along the lines if Houston wants me they can get me take it for what you want but it seems as if he's also interested for playing for the texans
I haven't seen him play. Besides the 3-INT game against the Jets, what's so special about him? 5 total interceptions with the Jets game. I'm afraid the system in NE made him look good.
In 2007, Bodden had 88 tackles and 6 ints with the Browns, so I wouldnt say its necessarily the system that made him look good. The guy isnt an elite CB...but he is adequate and should do a solid job at the position. Besides, even if he had 1 int, that would be more than our "#1" from last season.
He was something like 12th in the league in completion % against. Only half of the passes thrown his way were completed. Dunta was somewhere around 85th in the league. He was also 8th in the league in passes defensed. Dunta was 59th. The only thing I'd be wary of is that I don't think Bodden was NE's #1 corner last season so he wasn't drawing the best opposing receiver like Dunta was.
I haven't seen the guy play a whole lot. What I read has been mostly good things, and that's why i advocate this signing. Most everyone has pointed out that he has a pretty good completion % against and more ints than anyone we had last year. So why is the consensus that he was the the 2nd best corner on the market after Dunta, rather than the best? What are his weaknesses? I think I read something about him not being a great tackler, but im not sure. If so, is he just not a good tackler, or just in comparison to Dunta?
Good point...but there were definitely a good number of times where Dunta wouldnt be covering the other teams #1...like against Fitz or Ochocinco, I dont think Dunta was on them for a good number of plays. I cant remember how much Dunta went head to head against Reggie Wayne.
Probably because Dunta was a first rounder, and has been starting since his rookie year, and became the team's premiere CB (easy to do opposite Faggins). Bodden on the other hand went undrafted and has already been on 3 different teams, 2 of which were the Browns and Lions. Hope his Houston trip went well today.
http://espn.go.com/blog/nflnation/post/_/id/19688/bodden-its-all-about-who-wants-me Free-agent cornerback Leigh Bodden didn't mince words when discussing what it would take for the New England Patriots to re-sign him. "I had a good year there, but it's all about who wants me," Bodden told Houston television station KRIV after touching down at the airport for Monday's meeting with the Texans (thanks to WEEI.com's Christopher Price for posting the link). "If they want me, they can get me. If Houston wants me, they can get me. I'm just here to see what these guys have to offer and just meet the coaches." Bodden had a career-rejuvenating season with the Patriots. He signed a one-year contract after an insufferable season with the Detroit Lions in 2008, and now he's about to strike it rich. With the Patriots he tied Brandon Meriweather for the team lead with five interceptions and was tops with 17 passes defensed. On the verge of his meeting with the Texans, Bodden delivered some ominous comments for those hoping he returns to New England. "I think it's great having a team like the Houston Texans being interested in me," Bodden said. "I'm just going to go here, meet the coaches, and hopefully everything goes good." Bodden said he hopes he doesn't have to visit another team. "It's kind of nerve-wracking," Bodden said. "It is what it is. It's part of the business. "Hopefully I can get things done with the Texans and just move on." Sounds like he wants to be here.
Darius Butler took over for Springs sometime during the year and was pretty decent for them. NE's pass D got better late in the year toward the end. (basically after the New Orleans game on MNF). The issue was their run defense got worse late and the Texans and Ravens hammered them.
at a reasonable price, i like the move. He certainly isnt worse than dunta, comes at a cheaper price and doesnt have the antics of dunta
