All it's going to take for some is hiring another black HC and QB, only then will they be happy. (Not directed at you) BTW, if the Texans have to draft a QB this year and I hope they dont, I hope Hooker is the guy they pick.
What makes you think this other than fandom. I agree with you because I think they will upgrade 6-8 positions on this team through FA and the draft.
I dont think the Texans will suck as bad as last season, and with an even easier schedule this upcoming season, I can see them win 6-7 games. Even so, I hope the Texans will still end up with the 1st overall pick, even if they win more games.
See that's another thing. I want the Texans to draft QB because I'm over Davis Mills and I really don't want a retread veteran QB... but not drafting one could be the better move longterm for us when you factor in what's the best available options right now to build this team up to great 2 to 3 years from now. It's not guaranteed Byrce or CJ will be great or even really good. It's hard for some to receive that but it's a decision the Texans really have to dig into and investigate... study. We gotta build this team up strategically and smart. We need to get the best talent, skill and relentless minded players in every position group first and foremost. We may be overlooking this by merely being blinded in just seeking a star QB.
Are they really on the right track? Only time will tell and I agree with your thoughts here on taking a wait and see approach. I simply do not trust Cal and Nick at all to do the right thing and give Demeco the authority and resources to succeed. And I want him to succeed - to be the one who gets the credit for pulling this organization's head out of its ass and establishing a legitimate football operation.
Bobby: (Philosophy about QB?) A lot that goes into that. It’s the whole unit and how it fits together. We take a top down view. We’re an offense built on precision, in rhythm. It’s not any one given position. It’s seeing how it all fits. …How important depth is, how you have more than one guy fill a role, develop him and believe in what we want to do and not miss a beat. Again, top down view, we view that everywhere. Not just QB but we had situations at RB, WR too …DeMeco says SWARM. That applies to the offense as well. Are we fast, physical, tough? Always gonna work around what we have. (Why the right fit?) Exciting things going on. Great relationship with DeMeco. Same room together that first year in 2017. We built a bond going through that whole process. Special person, special coach. On top of that, youth on the roster, guys who can play, capital you can take advantage of, got excited about Nick’s approach, how he sees the game and roster construction. (Your identity and can a rookie QB start?) Fast, physical, tough. We always said in SF and believe if you get in a room by yourself and turn on our film, character should show through. You should see a team that is aggressive, fast, no hesitation and enjoys playing the game. (Rookie starting) I would point to the end of last year. We had Mr. Irrelevant who did one heck of a job. I think how you structure the entire thing, offense, defense, ST, plays a hand in how it goes together. (Early assessment of talent on team?) Young group. Guys that are athletic, that can move, that can play the game and we can help develop and take another step. Two tackles on the roster, some guys at receiver, Davis Mills, Dameon Pierce, we have some tools to work with and start to put this thing together. (What did you think about DeMeco when you met him in 2017?) When I first met him, didn’t know him at any level. … I was not sure what I was gonna get. You immediately start talking, you feel energy, you feel juice, excited to be there, excited to live, excited to be part of something where competition is at stake. That inspires you. You start to realize we have very similar values, football opinions and outlooks, how we approach the game and approach teaching. We had a lot of similarities.
Matt Burke: (Your philosophy and thoughts on current personnel?) Through this hiring process, I would say DeMeco’s vision and mine lined up. We want to be aggressive, an attack front. My job is to help him execute his vision. There are some pieces on defense we like, looking forward to looking with. We’ll be an aggressive attack front. (Thoughts on this DL draft class as well as FA) We’re undergoing that process right now. … There’s a lot of options, a lot of depth across the league. … There’s not a lot of teams that play the style we’ll ask these guys play. (Play calling duties TBD?) He’s the HC so it’s his decision. We’re getting to know each other. My office is right next to his. I don’t put weight into that stuff. I’m here to help him. Wasn’t a sticking point in the process. We’ll sort it out as it goes. Not really an issue for me being honest with you.
