Jimmy won as many championships as Reid did and did it in far fewer years. The team Switzer won a SB with was also Jimmy's team.

Jimmy Johnson orchestrated the Hershel Walker trade and built an all-time roster. But he wasn't a terribly innovative head coach. And the fact Switzer won with his roster - while JJ flopped in Miami - underscores that his greatest accomplishment was player acquisition and roster-building.

JJ is definitely in the mix among the last 50 years - but I don't think he's very close to Walsh, Belichick or Reid, IMO. Like Walsh, Belichick and Reid fundamentally changed the game. I would have to think about it - but they may be among the 10, 15 most important coaches in the history of the NFL from that perspective.

    Agree to disagree
    .

Johnston was the master psychologist his rings speak for themselves.

He failed at Miami because Marino didn't want to run Johnson's offense. They clashed quite often.

Jimmy Johnson is not the first or last coach to successfully manage egos. I mean, Switzer did it with literally the same roster. And there's a long list of other coaches who have done it. JJ undoubtedly impacted player acquisition (his draft value chart is *still* used) - but from a pure coaching standpoint... again, his impact is fairly limited. What did he innovate? Where is his coaching tree? Bill Walsh hasn't coached in the NFL since 1988 and you can *still* see his coaching tree all over the NFL. Hell, one of them just won his second Super Bowl.

Seems to me.... a "master psychologist" should have been able to navigate that?....
