Nah, this guy comes on the recommendation of Greg Manusky, who worked with Phillips' when they were with the Chargers. This isn't a Kubiak hire....it's a Phillips hire. I don't know if that's any better, but it is what it is. I'm guessing that personnel plays a large part in that. Nate Clements is VASTLY overpaid, and he's their best corner.
Well, to be fair to me, I did copy the wrong link this time as I meant to put this new "wrong track" image I saved earlier in my bookmarks. I tried to edit it with McNair and Kubiak but it looked stupid so use your imagination.
As much as we have ragged on the entire Texan front office/coaching staff I wouldn't be surprised if in a year Mcnair is getting praised and looks like a genius after the Texans have a respectable season (playoffs). Although I'm not advocating that keeping Kubiak is a wise decision, but honestly the Texans HAVE to be better next year.
Earlier today I googled "on the right track" on google images and saved to my bookmarks like four or five of them to edit for a Kubiak/McNair spoof. I have a few more in progress as we speak. By the way, if you do the google search I think on page 9 or 10 there is a picture of Kubiak from the chronicle.
This should be our new marketing slogan. Houston Texans: We HAVE to be better next year But seriously, I'm not too worried about this. Anyone is better than Gibbs and whoever this dude is, all he will be doing is what Wade tells him to do.

Guys, if our pass defense had been 24th last season like this guy's, we definitely would've gotten to 8-8, maybe even 9-7! Talk about progress!
Anybody kinda pissed that the good old boys network continues? "Oh hey we just lost Singletary here in SF so we're all gonna get canned. Let's try to get our crappy staff some jobs so they don't end up homeless."
Professional recommendations are how almost everybody gets a job in the NFL, I wouldn't look too much into it. The Good Old Boy network is moreso how Wade got his job (although Wade is qualified, at least), and Frank Bush, and the guy before him...
What the hell wouldn't Ray Rhodes know about playing DB in the NFL? If coaching made the difference, the Texans would have been good. wiki: He earned five Super Bowl rings as an assistant coach with the San Francisco 49ers and was named Coach of the Year by The Associated Press in 1995, his first season as a head coach.
As the lone 49ers fan in this thread, I don't think their secondary is as bad as those numbers would indicate. The Niners defense the last five years has been put in the worst situations possible by their offense. They are almost the bizarro Texans. When Walt Harris was healthy a couple years ago, they were actually pretty good. I think Tarell Brown and Reggie Smith have gotten better as younger players that I presume are being coached. You should be more concerned with the lack of talent in the secondary than the guy that coaches them. Kubiak has had 3 DL coaches, 3 DB coaches, 2 LB coaches, and 3 DC's. At some point the fingers should be pointed at the GM and Coach for the crap they give the coaches to teach. Do you really think John Hoke (whose Bears secondary looks pretty good doesn't it) and David Gibbs were teaching their DB's to NOT look back for the football? Draft/Sign more talented players with better instincts and anyone can look like a smart coach. I don't know the new coach, nor would I recognize him if he stepped on my big toe, but to me the DB coach is not that big of a deal.
