It’s pretty clear they want to reassess the roster after Demeco’s first year and have the flexibility to spend a lot in free agency when they have an abundance of cap space.

Now we're talking! With Ridgeway and Rankins we've increased depth and talent of our IDL. Interesting both came out of 2016 draft. Rankins was #12 in RD1 by Saints and Ridgeway RD4 by Colts.

This may mean we like the Edge talent in draft way better than IDL.

Probably the reason he signed with the Texans is he wanted a 1 year prove it deal.

Yep, I'm thinking Smith or Van Ness at 1-12 and sign Perryman. The run defense should be much improved. If Ryans wanted Smith at 1-12 and Simpson at 2-33 it wouldn't be what I would do, but the defense probably would improve from terrible to top 15 or so in the NFL.

I'm not going to question LB's and Ryans, but it appears he didn't want Al Shaair on the Texans.

Should we give him another chance?

Wouldn't be against it, only 30, might be able to be schemed into productivity

    Swap of backup QBs
Bills get Allen; Texans get Keenum

I think they should give coach and team the best chance. Dont have self-imposed restriction. I get not making short-sighted moves on splashy cap eating signings. But that should be a separate ideal apart from a prove-it on the coach. Cuz if performance is bad, it still can be excuse of ""didnt give coach enough to work with". (All this might still be part fallout of Bill O'Brien. Now its the other way, too reluctant of doing any overspend)

We know he is a good run defender, Texans weakest area. It at least makes sense as a need
