Where is Schmitz projected in the draft? Is he worth 1.12 or can we trade back for him? Really have no idea about centers.
Yep, if they want to put the best team possible on the field next yr, then the draft should look something like this. Young is a given. 1-2 Young 1-12 Nolan Smith 2-32 Washington 2-46 Schmitz (Trading Cooks and pick 3-73) A steal here. 3-64 Achane 4-103 Mingo or Coburn
To me he's worth is 4 year starter, all conference and played very well in the Sr. Bowl. He was able to block on the move as a big man. Perfect fit for the ZBS. He's rated in the 30-40's by most draft sites.
IMO he is doing this because in reality there 2 years away from being competitive. I could be wrong but in reality, why make the commitment when we will need to reload in a few years, who knows maybe some of these guys get resigned after showing what they can do
Calm down... a lot of these big deals go bad quick and cripple your cap space. Talent obviously matters a lot but so does scheme fit and coaching... look what happened to Asomugha when he went to Philly... Criticize in hindsight... it's NC job to guess future performance correctly, not just pay guys based on what they did. Achane in 3rd may be a stretch... hearing he's likely mid 2...
I'm a pass on all first round guys. Usc guy is small slot guy. TCU guy has size/speed but poor route running. Ohio state guy coming off injuries. My sleeper is Michael Wilson 3rd round out of Stanford. PFF has him #7 WR in draft. 6'2" /210. Prototypical size and 15.6 yards per catch. We need someone with size who can play vertical game. I don't think Nico has the speed. Knocks on him, he was a senior and part time player. Missed a lot of time. With playing time he's a high 2 so that's your discount....
Call me crazy, I'd go offense on first 3 picks. Anything we can do to help a rookie QB with weapons to develop and take pressure off... If we lose we may as well have high scoring games...
The ones that showed what they can do already signed and it wasn't with us. Consistency in the O line is how the Kubahan offense runs. It's why the Chinese backwards offense that BoB brought was never going to work with everyone being 'versatile' in the line. So if the opportunity is there to acquire the most important piece to the zone scheme, at a very affordable price, you do it. It only stalls your entire scheme if you wait til you're competitive. We're not talking about spending $12 or 10 million on a player here or $9 or $8million. In fact, Nick paid washed up Britt and Cann, which combined, is about the same price for a Bradbury or a Brendel who have shown to be really good in that system.
Not sure we should expect high scoring games from a rookie QB. Last rookie I think had some sort of success was Dak Prescott. That team in particular had 4 all pros in the offensive line PLUS a prime Zeke Elliott. Thumbing your nose at how putrid our defense was especially in the run department is a big mistake.
Agree with this. If Carter is cleared before the draft I’m trading 12 and a third to move up and get him. I’m convinced the Texans are going QB at 1.2 even though I think they should at least explore drafting down. A cleared Carter is the anchor of your defense for a decade.
Give me the best DT on the board then. There's an outside chance Achane could be there do to the fact he's so small. Young and Achane aka the Tiny Tim club.
Trenton Simpson is scheduled for a Texans visit today. QB then a trade down for Defense followed by a trade up for more D is how I see Big D Nick working. Three first round selections. 2nd, 15th and 26th. Just because I feel Nick is Morty Seinfeld in Free agency doesn't mean I don't love his drafting style. We need to all chip in and buy Caserio a tipping calculator.
