    There are still a lot of things a new (or interim) GM can and should do before the season start. Here is what I think are the biggest:

    1. Resolve the Clowney situation. Sign him, get him to show up for mini-camp, or trade him.
    2. Get a proven veteran to start the season at OT. Henderson was a backup and hasn't played in a year. Kalil was a starter but hasn't played in a year either; and wasn't good last time we saw him. Everybody else on the line (outside of Nick Martin) is either a rookie or was a backup at their last stop. Make some calls to other teams or call Donald Penn.
    3. Fire Mike Devlin
    4. If Clowney is traded bring in an edge rusher like Nick Perry or Derick Morgan
    5. When trimming the roster down to 53, make the tough right decisions. Don't be scared to let draft picks go. Select the best players who have earned a roster spot.
    6. Get an office far far far away from Bill O'Brien.

    SO much this. You can't do this with a guy on a rookie deal. This was the year to use your cap on bonuses and stuff that would be gone when you need to keep Watson. Just terrible asset mgmt.

    Not much done in free agency, and a questionable draft.

    It is surprising from a Texans standpoint... but isn't the biggest knock on them usually how they're slow to react? This isn't a vote of confidence in anybody. Its more putting others on notice.

    That's how I felt. I was surprised more from a Texans fan perspective. Rick Smith lasted forever... Surprised how quickly they moved on from Gaine.

    Needless to say. I'm still in shock. I just found out about 15 min ago. But I gotta remember Bob McNair is no longer around..... This is the Cal show now...

    Shocking yes, surprised no. This is the same scenario of what the Jets did, coach Case disagrees with GM and ownership sides with Case- GM fired. Billy Bob is going to hand-pick the next GM.
