https://www.click2houston.com/sport...ns-firing-offensive-coordinator-bobby-slowik/ Internal candidates for the job are expected to include quarterbacks coach Jerod Johnson, senior offensive assistant Bill Lazor and receivers coach and passing game coordinator Ben McDaniels. An outside candidate who makes sense: New Orleans Saints offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak, the son of former Texans coach Gary Kubiak. Cole Popovich, the assistant offensive line coach is regarded as a strong internal candidate to potentially replace Strausser. Popovich, though, will have options around the NFL. With the Texans assistant coaches, their status will be determined depending on next steps for replacing Slowik with a new offensive coordinator. Only Slowik and Strausser are out, at this point, per sources
The defense kept the Texans in games but they could only do so much. The offense had too many 3rd and longs. Need 1st and 2nd downs to be more efficient. Hopefully the new offensive coordinator isn't someone already on the Texans staff. Need someone with a different scheme.
OUT-MUTHA F***ING-STANDING I wonder if they were waiting a minute to see if he got an actual head coaching gig so they didn't have to fire him. Either way, this is good news.
Why would Klint take a lateral move to come here? and why do we want him anyway? The saints offense sucked last year
My guess is Jerrod's name keeps being mentioned because the Texans are going to allow the new OC to make the call on whether he wants to keep him or not. Jerrod is/was highly respected, and the Texans know he'll easily find a job somewhere else, so why jump the gun unnecessarily. I would assume he's a long shot at landing the OC gig though, especially with some of the other names out there.
I would like Chip Kelly. Here is why: Demeco and Kelly have a strong relationship already. Kelly has been a head coach and Ryans could use his counsel. Kelly is innovative, successful and knows how to hire staff. Kelly's run game design is elite. This is what the Texans and Stroud need. Kelly could help poach the very successful offensive line coach from the Eagles, Jeff Stoutland. Kelly hired him in the first place. Kelly does not seem to want to be head coach anymore.
Texans aren’t going to hire Jerrod or any first time play caller as an OC. They just learned with Bobby. Chip Kelley Doug Peterson Mike McCarthy Interview all of them.
They're going to get one of the better OC options on the board with Stroud at QB. They will be lining up to interview.
