In the building (Johnson/Lazor/McDaniels) Father coached here; HC played for said father (Kubiak) Caserio/Patriots connection; John Carroll alum (Caley) Failed OC under Saleh (with Zach Wilson) (LaFleur) From “here”, played here, interviewed here (McCown) Sorry, we need one of the outsiders (and all have HC experience) Chip Kelly Mike McCarthy Doug Pederson
I think Chip Kelly would be the right call... I cannot believe I just typed those words... lol Connection to Demeco & CJ Plus I gotta think they already had the discussion before letting Slowick go (they just gave him time to interview)
Cody Stoots said Todd Monken is the highest paid NFL OC at $3 mill per yr. Chip makes $2mill at the tOSU + incentives. Chips made some $$ in his career and probably at a point where right situation is more important. He was making $4 mill per at UCLA before he departed for Ohio State. So yeah we’re still gonna have to pay the man. I’m guessing $3 mill. But our situation is infinitely better than other teams looking for an OC. In terms of both players and organization. Cal better not get out bid by Clown Khan or Woody Johnson.
/NFL has weighed in. Eagles and SF fans in particular. Eagles fans can’t stand him. SF think he didn’t get a fair shot. tOSU fans seem the most informed tbh. This one in particular. I’m sold.
Kubiak (dad) was innovative when innovation wasn't cool. He is actually the coach who trained the Shanahan tree. The kids are simply second gen disciples.
Just envisioning what a Chip Kelly offense may look like coaching personnel wise OC: Chip Kelly OL coach / run game coordinator: Jeff Stoutland or Pat Flaherty or Greg Austin (from Htown) could bring Austin in as Asst OL OL asst coach: Eric Wolford or Greg Austin QB Coach: Jerrod Johnson (asst QB coach?) or Bill Lazor Running Backs: Danny Barrett or Jeff Nixon Wide Receivers: Bob Bicknell or Press Taylor or Mick Lombardi or Ben McDaniels TE coach / pass game coordinator: Justin Peele or James Casey
I keep seeing Jerod Johnson as a candidate. I’ll be pretty disappointed if he is chosen. Was he a good QB coach after last year’s performance? Sure he didn’t handle play calling but he could have taught CJ to be more poised in the pocket, throw the ball away, etc. since he did such a great job as QB coach we think he can handle the OC job?
This would not include those under contract where they would need permission from the team first. Neither the teams nor coaches can mention them ahead of this permission without being guilty of tampering. Just because there is a tradition of permitting moves considered promotions and not lateral moves, it makes titles somewhat suspicious.and introduces uncertainty to the interview process.
I would be very suprised if nick/demeco slect a rookie OC who would have to learn on the job. They may be interviewing him to be respectful. Get a veteran OC (such as Kelly or McCarthy) who has seen every defense.
Well, this is what I’ve been saying. A bad offensive line makes everyone look bad. QB looks bad, OC looks bad, everything looks bad. Good offensive line makes everything look better. Texans got work to do.
This is what people don't understand. The offensive line's issues were almost directly related to not knowing what to do? Shaq Mason isn't a grandpa. He somehow lost his ability to pick up a stunt or recognize a blitz. Why is that? Mental errors are coaching related. Not improving on those mental errors is a big issue. Feels like the right coaching can clear up a lot of these perceived problems.
Ohio St ran more than a few formations under center with Kelly. The whole uptempo no rest for the defense tirade is so 2011. The only thing that worries me is what some have referenced in here and listening to Clint Stoener say "Everyone I've met that played under Kelly has nothing good to say about him." Yet Demeco loves him. Plus, he is no longer a HC. He's probably tone it down some right. Right? :insert Anakin meme:
