I remember what it was like being a Texans fan in San Antonio. Four years of being surrounded by cowboy fans. I'm happy to be back home. "We're Texans. We're supposed to be surrounded."
I think the Texans would have more of a national fan base if our name wasn't the Texans.. not that i dislike it but lets be real.. i wouldn't be a fan of the Los Angeles Californians... if i was a born and raised Houstonian.. it's just kinda weird. most texans fans that aren't from houston, have houston roots.
I'm from out of town and I don't know what the big problem is. I've gotten together with some peeps to watch Texans games in my town. I live in Katy. [reply with BOO THIS MAN animated GIF, yes]
I guarantee you're not. I drove to Phoenix to watch us vs the Cards last year and there were quite a few out there. I was surprised. We were thinking Miller's Field in PB. Not being funny, but I bring it up because living here I see the logo and license plate holders repping Texans more often than you'd think. Plus with the large number of military, its not that tough to see. I know of at least five or six guys in my building alone.
Texan fan currently in Albuquerque. I did go to the Texans/Eagles game at the VET during the first season. Other than me I counted two other fans wearing Texans gear. Here in NM I've ran into maybe three other fans. Lots of Broncos and Cowboys fans here.
I think there aren't as many Texan fans as the other teams because there isn't that much of a history of the team. I know that a lot of people grow up being fans of teams because it's what there dads watched. There will always be fans in close vicinity but until we get deep in the playoffs and become a Cinderella story. It is hard to get non Texas fans. Mu h like the Tampa rays or a team like that. That's just my opinion.
You guys have solid points, but I know what I'm seeing here. If I get it going, I'll shoot y'all some pics.
I was excited to finally find an Academy in Austin that had any Texans gear. Have no problem finding cowboys, Astros, Rangers, Aggies, and even titans #10 jerseys. But to find one freaking Texans t-shirt to replace my one from the inaugural season was nearly impossible. The radio station the Texans were formerly on in Austin decided to go with the cowboys this season. The other sports station decided not to go with any team affiliation. They'll be free to broadcast any game, but the station manager told me it will be a "game of the week" thing. I have to endure cowboys updates every morning. It's the main reason why I now have Sirius. I can listen to the national shows and will have the Texans games broadcast should I be on the road on Sundays.
I live in Indianapolis and am probably the ONLY Texans fan here (originally from Houston). I get all kinds of hell for representing the team but I do it proudly - especially when the Colts play them...
Yeah, I think the main problem with the Texans having a little national fanbase is because honestly they haven't won anything. But what is promising is that during this offseason, Andre Johnson and Schaub have gotten a LOT of attention in the media, so that should bump up our popularity some. It will take winning a playoff game or two to really get a bigger fanbase, but I think this is the year!! Go Texans!
Yea I know they play a marjority of games but some games they don't show I usually head to Third Base to catch some. It's some on here use to meet up but I have no idea where it is.
