Try watching the games next year. Schaub was a solid qb, particularly after he came back from the injury.
He is an upgrade over Orlovsky at the back up QB position so I say it's a good signing. We're all hoping Schaub makes it 16 this year so hopefully we don't have to worry about who the back up is anyway.
I guess there is no more reasons to call radio stations and describe how our backup QB is way better than our starting QB.
Yeah, but it probably hurt less. physically, at least. As far as Grossman- the Bears are my other team, and the Texans honestly aren't gonna get much out of him (the Bears got to the superbowl more in spite of him, rather than because of him). However, to be fair, if hes getting paid like a backup, then he'll be just fine. He's a terrible starting QB, but he will be a decent backup.
Man, I used to think people here picked on you for no apparent reason, but after seeing this comment, I may have to join them. Possibly the stupidest thing I've seen posted on this forum all year. I think this is a good signing. Ideally, you want your backup to have starting experience. And I'd actually rather have bad starting experience over NO starting experience.
Nicely done. This will give us good depth.(states the obvious) He is an upgrade over rosenfels and we got a pick for ronsenfels. Texans for the win.
I'm a big fan of this move. Subtle, but you get a veteran to compete with Orlovsky for the backup spot? Just awesome. Now as your backup you have 2 guys...one with potential, one who is mediocre, but can play in the NFL at least (although I wouldn't trust him to ever be a full-time starter). Hopefully Orlovsky develops into a serviceable #2. I like both better than having Sage after his confidence was shot. I like both better than a lot of other backups around the league. I bet you Rex knows how to chuck it up there and let Andre find it..
I do not think the Texans will carry two backup QBs on their rosters. Thus, when they break camp, one of Orlovsky or Grossman will be gone. If Orlovsky does not make the team, his NFL career will no longer be on life support. Same can be said for Grossman.
i think grossman is a camp body, nothing more. he's not a young lump of clay kubiak can mold (like orlovsky). he's a 29 year old slinger with zero discipline, poor decision-making and no natural instincts - too much of a departure from schaub and too radical a fit for this offense. unless they've been thoroughly unimpressed with orlovsky thus far (which is possible; i have no idea), i'd be shocked if grossman breaks camp with the team. (barring an injury to schaub or orlovsky, of course.)
I think Orlovsky > Grossman. Orlovsky was decent on the worst team in NFL history, minus the most embarrassing play in NFL history. He has plenty of upside, too. They were high on him early in free agency for a reason. Grossman will not get any better, so unless 3 QB's are carried on the active roster, I don't think he'll make it out of camp.
I don't think a lump of clay is what you're looking for in a backup. Not unless it's somebody you intend to be the starter down the road. I don't think that applies to either Grossman or Orlovsky.
a guy kubiak can mold - absolutely. he likes veterans that can be coached up. its why carr ultimately failed with him and why grossman would as well; rosenfels, schaub and orlovsky were lumps of clay - guys with more potential than bad habits.
He is not better than sage. You could argue that shaub is not that much better than sage. The colts game may taint your picture, but that was one very bad game.
Wow we have a Super Bowl starting QB as a backup. LOL....actually not bad if ya ask me. Even though I've always thought Rex Grossman and David Carr were one of the same.
Aright.. let me tell you why I said what I said. I thought he was supposed to be a starter... Secondly, I only really saw Grossman when the Bears made it to the playoffs that year... that's all I've seen of him... What I meant by what I said was that both QB's suck... I didn't know though that we still had Schaub, I thought we had traded him... I don't follow football much at all until the season starts.. I just generally watch the games.. With that said, I'll admit, I'm not really an expert or anything at profootball, in fact I only started watching the Texans in 06. I'm more of a college football guy... got into it more with the Texans in the beginning of the 06 season...
Grossman is cheap insurance. Signs for the league minimum. If Schaub gets hurt (a possibility) and Orlovsky sucks (a definite possibility), you at least have some experience in there. The season will be in the tank by then anyway... again.
