I don't care what that says, it's not legit. Just like Laverneus Coles running a 4.17, and Bo Jackson running a 4.12 or whatever before him, it's inaccurate. First of all, Virginia Tech has a notoriously fast track and has been known for inflating times, and secondly, it was likely hand timed and not electronic making it even more inaccurate. Electronically timed at the 2004 combine, he was slower than Dunta Robinson who had the best 40 of all the DB's clocking in with a 4.34.
I'm going to go ahead and keep my Deangelo Hall 40 times - 4.15 (indoor track), 4.37 (outdoor track). Without that my whole world would cave in on itself and everything would turn dark in a fog of disillusionment. One could argue that those two tenths of a second or so don't mean much, and are not worth arguing over, but I will not surrender. One could also say that I barely found out those numbers a couple of days ago, and couldn't care less what Hall ran, because I was just talking about how much the combine meant to his signing bonus (and its overall impact), but again where would I be if I didn't hold strong to my 48 hour convictions? So go, Deangelo Hall. Go, go, go, you speed demon.
http://newsok.com/article/3016346 Adrian 'wouldn't mind' going to Texans Before he gets poked and prodded by NFL scouts at this week's Combine, former Oklahoma running back Adrian Peterson was peppered with questions from Sports Illustrated. A question and answer session with Peterson is in the SI Players section of this week's issue. "People expect big things,” Peterson said of the Combine. "They want to see if I'm man enough after all the hype. Everyone's going to be watching and critiquing every little detail, every slipup, every cut I make. The preparation has been intense. The training (at a facility in Arizona) has been almost like boot camp.” Peterson is expected to go in the Top 10 picks in the NFL Draft. Among the teams he could go to is Houston. Peterson grew up in Palestine, Texas. "I wouldn't mind the Texans. Being able to go back to my home state and having my family there would be nice. Also, the Raiders. I rooted for them growing up. Obviously Dallas would be on the list, but I am pretty sure they won't have a high enough pick to get me.”
Forget about the dufuses who draft for teams, what I said is that there is not one QB in this years draft that is equal to Young or Leinart- who both were going to make a big impact as rookies and have very successful careers. Regardless of where Leinart was drafted he was a very good QB who should have gone top 5. There are no stud QB's in this draft. The kid from LSU is a risk (he definately is no Vince Young), Brady Quinn can go either way- about the same potential as Kevin Kolb just played for a big time team (ND). (If Kolb had played at Notre Dame and Quinn at UH I think they would have about the same success and would be hyped about the same- just reverse order) This year's class of QBs are big drop off from Young, Leinart, Cutler. If the Texans wanted a stud QB they should have drafted one last year. If they want a stud QB right now they are better off waiting or looking for a steal in the 3-4 round- I would consider Stanton or Kolb if they fell into the Texans lap at that spot. I don't think Quinn will fall very far because he does have some good skills and I think he has alot of potential. Just not like Young who was a 'once in a lifetime' opportunity. The Texans should try to improve the pass rush, the run defense, the running game and most importantly the QB position. I don't think a rookie QB will come in, play and improve the position this coming season. Their defensive backfield is in shambles and they could use an Offensive Line. If Charles Spencer comes back as good as he showed last season and if the USC kid keeps developing and starts at right tackle, the Texans will have an improved OL. But they need to improve the depth and they need to be prepared if Spencer is not able to come back strong. SO they must draft a good tackle- I like Staley.
I can't understand all the venom being spit at Quinn. I have watched Quinn play for 4 years (I am a big ND fan) - he is not David Carr - he will be better for sure. I have always rooted for Carr, but I agree with Lance Z, the previous regime damaged him beyond repair and it is time for him to go. While I would not draft Quinn personally, I would NOT be heart broken if we did. If Charlie Weiss thinks a QB has what it takes to be a stud I am willing to defer to his opinion. Also, if D Walker is there is round 4 I hope we grab him - he has skills.
confused. you're a big ND fan, so we should trust your opinion on Quinn? He's better than Carr...and you'd be heartbroken if we got Quinn? You're defering to Weiss but you'd be heartbroken? Plus, you think Weiss would say "yeah he was my QB...but I don't think he has it for the next level of this game". Right.
I like Quinn's potential, I rate him over Russell. I think the Raiders would be wise to trade down and draft Quinn. But frankly I think Russell, Quinn, Stanton and Kolb all have about the same potential depending on the right situation. Russell has a great arm, can anyone say Byron Leftwich or a young Drew Bledsoe? Quinn, Stanton and Kolb will all have an opportunity to develop into good QBs with the right system and organization. D Walker sounds like a prospect, it will be an interesting draft.
I am a poor typer - it was supposed to read NOT heart broken if we got him. Thanks for pointing it out - I fixed it.
Little tidbits from the combine: Justin Blalock: 40 Bench Press Reps- Very impressive showing by Blalock, I don't think he is really on our radar. Solidified himself as a mid-1st Rounder. Levi Brown: 31 Bench Press Reps- This is a very disappointing performance by Brown. Many have him projected to be the 2nd OL taken and a big possibility at #8, I don't think this will be the case anymore.
nothing wrong with that many reps. Certainly not enough to make him fall. If anything makes him fall it'll be his agility. Mr. top 5 lock JT did 28 reps.
The thing about bench reps is that the longer your arms are the harder the reps become. JT is a legit 6'6 and that sounds about rightif he;s proportional. Could be better but its not that bad. I'm starting to think Justin Blaylock might be a good pick if the Texans are wowed with a trade down. UT-Austin runs a zone block scheme and he's started @ RT and RG so he fits Jarheads requisite of versatility. Plus it's an area of need.
i have a feeling that troy smith is going to do well in the nfl. I think he could fit in with kubiak's offense. He can make all the throws that are needed out of NFL starting QB, has nice athletic ability for the bootlegs, smart with the football, and is a Winner.
Anyone have a hunch on who could we be really looking to draft now ? I heard on ESPN that we will go with WR possible since we cut Moulds. Maybe Im wrong, but I would rather go with Ginn Jr over Jarrett cuz of his punt returning abilities.
