No but Travis "fat boy slim" Johnson sure could. Still cant figure out WTF Asserly and Crappers were on that draft day? Johnson has consistently done zero for the Texans ever since he got here. So yeah he fit the system perfectly. What system I have no idea. The system of lowered expectations and lets all hold hands and sing kumbaya!
Nate Clements just bought a house in the Woodlands and has come on 610am and openly said he would like to play for Houston.
I was just speaking generally, not specific to his post. I'm just sick of people saying they should draft like Denver. I've heard it from a bunch of people I know and some people on this board
Clements is from Ohio. Does anybody know what the motivation was for buying a house and moving here? I could understand if he already had a contract with the Texans or even the Cowboys. But, he doesn't....yet. Is the deal already done or is there another reason for him to move here such as family, etc.?
I don't know if lives in Houston but Nate Clements did recently buy a house in Pearland. He was on SportsRadio 610 last month and said he would be open to play in Houston but didn't sound desperate. Here is a link of the audio of the interview, dated 1/26/07. http://www.sportsradio610.com/pages/151256.php
It's in Pearland? I thought Pallilo said the Woodlands the other day. Either way he has a house close to Houston.
I'd guess that no income tax is motivation enough when you make that much money. So many professional athletes like (or at least claim residency) in Texas and Florida beacuse of the lack of a state income tax. Clements will not come cheap. However, if he wants to be in Houston sign him up. He is very good and still young. That would allow the Texans to move Faggins back to nickelback, where he belongs.
I really like the open discussions cpncerninh the Texans. Someone said this is not the Broncos, its the Texans. This is so true, but when a coach comes from one of the most successful football teams, most times they try to emulate that success. I do really like peterson, but i'm just thinking just like the rest of the league thinks about running backs. Unless the guy is a everydown all purpose guy like LT, it doesn't make sense to draft a guy high 1st rd. A main reason especially with a big guy like Peterson is that they dont last long and you tend to tie a lot of money into those guys. I mean 3 yrs ago Kamal Lewis ran for 2000yds, now they're talking about cutting him at 27. Edge let and was replaced by a late 1st rd rookie and rhodes. I mean i would like to build the line on both sides and the skill guys will be better. If Okoye is who everyone thinks he is, he might be a Tommie Harris-Warren sapp type of guy next to Mario. Tha makes the db and everyone better. We've seen games when the Texans had productive running games and they defense played well also. There will be quality 80ypg backs availible through the draft or free agency. Ahman Green,Rhodes,Chris Brown, hell even Ricky Williams who is probably as fresh as a running back can be at 30. What if you got a guy like those and they were vgood backs for the next 4 yrs, then what? I just dont really see paying a rookie rb 15mil signing bonus when the bigger need is getting off the field so a back can get yards on the ground.
I heard Kiper on the radio this morning and NOW he says he's very doubtful Adrian will be there for the Texans at #8. Sorry, no link, just what I heard on the radio. If someone has espn insider I would think its there Also, he said Quinn is dropping (please don't draft him Houston) I know this is all speculation on his part, but he's Kiper and got the hair
Kiper has a lot of contacts of people in the know, and I'm sure he's getting some good info on what the scouts are thinking about Peterson. Usually right before the draft is where they start feeding him bad info. My greatest fear is coming true that Quinn could be available wat #8. Brady Quinn highlights for those interested - <object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/-6M9fIincgM"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/-6M9fIincgM" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object>
That's not even close to my greatest fear. If Quinn is there at 8, I'd think the Texans could trade out of the pick rather easily. I can't see the Texans spending a first rounder on a QB at this point.
For actual highlights of Brady Quinn, and not some dumb 2 minute video of the bad moments in one game... <object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/WcrRy4aT8kk"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/WcrRy4aT8kk" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object> <object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/LJgmeEH1lrE"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/LJgmeEH1lrE" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object> <object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/2uvaqh--2Kc"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/2uvaqh--2Kc" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object> <object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/sLZO24ngnfQ"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/sLZO24ngnfQ" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object> <object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/zqAu7IMSzGU"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/zqAu7IMSzGU" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object> ( 35 second game winning drive to defeat UCLA, with Quinn faking out the defense on the last play) <object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/z27D8K4F-JM"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/z27D8K4F-JM" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object> (Brady Quinn's 2005 rushing touchdown with 2 minutes left, which would have been the game winner had replays been used. More indication Peterson won't be there when we're picking. http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/sports/4543685.html Peterson's stock skyrockets Oklahoma running back Adrian Peterson, who entered the draft after his junior year, is getting hotter by the week. The more scouts watch him, the more they like him. He could go as high as third or fourth to Cleveland, depending on the Browns' coin flip with Tampa Bay to determine those spots. "He's a bigger, faster, more powerful Eddie George," Green Bay scout Alonzo Highsmith said of the Palestine native. George, the Oilers' No. 1 pick in 1996, became one of two backs to rush for at least 10,000 yards and never miss a game because of an injury. The other was Jim Brown of the Cleveland Browns.
Achilleus -- those stats look a helluva lot like David Carr's stats at Fresno State. very comparable.
And Carr may have been a hell of a quarterback...in a different life. Any quarterback good enough to go in the first round will have good stats, and enough skill to be an all time great, right? Leadership, ability to adapt the the speed of the NFL, make mental decisions, and play well in crunch time, under pressure should be key. The data on Brady is mixed in my opinion....he's had some great games in critical situations, and some horrible games. I think the biggest problem about picking up Quinn would be that the Texans have so many other needs. But I wouldn't mind getting him, if Kubiak feels that's the right choice. As much as Carr continued to suck this past season, and has to go, I think Kubiak definitely understands the quarterback position.
