3 main needs are 1) Big playmaker (RB or WR) - Gaffney & Bradford are good WR's but niether will be a premier guy. Wells is OK at best, but they are going to need some one who is a threat everytime he touches the ball 2) DB either a safety or better a CB and move Coleman to safety 3) O-line, it takes a while for a line to come together, and they have a couple of high draft picks on that line. If they do not feel the players they have will cut it, then I would expect them to go after a vet who is not too old on f/a
I agree with ric: Get William Joseph. Or trade down. I'd rather try to sign David Boston (whose value has plummeted) in the off-season than pay first-round money to Charles Rogers. We also must shore up the O-line! Shattering (or coming close to breaking) the record for most sacks ever allowed should be a definite warning sign that our O-line needs help. Plan on Boselli never playing again (worst case scenario) and move from there. The Texans better damn well draft a safety, too... Isn't Casserly notorious for late-round RB pickups (Stephen Davis, Jonathan Wells, etc.)? That would rule out Suggs, Larry Johnson, Chris Brown, etc.
Sorry Ric, I haven't seen enough of Joseph too form an opinion. I've read your draft report on him and bow to your knowledge, but I'd think that at this point someone (no matter how raw) would learn the basic rule of DLmanhood. STAY LOW! I imagine that'd change the first time he gets flattened by Chris Naeole or Kyle Turley though. I wouldn't really have a problem with either one though, since both look to be genetic rfeaks who are huge and can move. And yes, PLEASE Charlie get someone to play safety so Matt Stevens can go back to being a bench guy. For someone who supposedly knows what everyone is doing all the time, he takes terrible angles and gets burned too often. So, I'd basically break down our need to: 1) Lineman (probably DL unless we trade down since there's no top 5 OL this year, maybe the Utah kid) 2) Safety 3) Gamebreaking WR or RB
the texans have needs at every single position, save QB. i prefer joseph over kennedy because of his versatility, a nice thing to have from your 3-4 linemen. but i won't be upset if we wind up with kennedy, who's a freaking monster. and i agree on stevens. if you get a chance, watch him blitz... pathetic technique, runs scared, cautious. he may very well be the worst starting football player in the NFL.
not necessarily. let's see how they fare at the combines, a much better indicator of what teams think of them.
I was thinking about that last night. I can't think of a worse starter for a team since the strike. He's horrible.
If we sign Boston then we should draft Cris Brown with the first pick but if we can't get Boston then I would get Rogers or Roy Williams. 2nd Round- O-Line 3rd Round- FREE SAFETY 4th Round- Nathon Vasher Kick Returner from Texas 5-7 round- Best player on the board.
yikes on Rogers. After the way him and his team wuit on the season, followed by him complaining that his teammates were hurting his heisman chances by sucking . . . I don't think I'd touch him with a ten foot pole.
do you have a source for this or any direct quotes? the only quotes i read from rogers were contrite; he blamed himself for a horrible game and said LJ would have his heisman vote if he had one.
I think Wide Reciever or Safety is what they should go for. They should get the highest ranked defensive secondary player they can find and go with either a wide reciever or O-lineman with the later picks. I do not know of any Safety is a big standout but we sure could use a big play defender.
Regarding our draft position, it's not just the Bengals we're battling with. We could go from 2nd to 9th with just one more win and if we win two then we're really getting near a double digit draft slot. I don't know what the tie breakers are (points?) but that's a pretty big jump. Bengals 1-10 Texans 3-8 Vikings 3-8 Lions 3-8 Bears 3-8 Panthers 3-8 Cowboys 4-7 Cardinals 4-7 Seahawks 4-7
1. Head-to-head 2. Best win/loss record within division 3. Best win/loss record in games common to both teams 4. Best average net points in conference games. 5. Best net points in all games. 6. Strength of schedule. 7. Best net touchdowns in all games. 8. Coin toss.
I've heard some things about Smoker and Rogers. Not sure if they're true, but it sure makes sense. That MSU team was pretty talented. Know anything about them missing a plane?
Put me down for J Kennedy. There should be some very good WR's available in the second round. If we end up winning another game or 2 and Kennedy falls out of reach I'm crossing my fingers that C Casserly will surprise everone and picks McGahee. He IMHO deserves the Hiesman. No other player in the country has come through for their team when needed more than McGahee.
uhm... wow. i would imagine there are quite a few at state college who would vehemently disagree with you.
I assume you mean L Johnson of Penn State. Johnson had a great year but McGahee is the best player on the best team and and is the better all around RB IMO.
