Manny Lawson was the NC State defensive player of the year in 2004 and 2005. Q: You were voted your team's most valuable defensive lineman the past two seasons. Who votes on that? Lawson: The team votes, the coaches vote. http://www.atlantafalcons.com/team/article.jsp?id=11113
So when Texas held its offensive MVP vote in 2002, was Chris Simms really the MVP of that offense over Roy Williams? Or is there a bias to seniors in this voting? When there are two good players, team awards will almost always go to the senior or upperclassman. No surprise there.
What competing senior was there, Selvin Young? Please. While the rule is a pretty valid one, there at least has to be viable competition (i.e. not Selvin Young). Yeah, I know I just insulted your boy kam.
Because he wanted to coach regardless and probably early on at least believed he could turn DC around.
for someone who isn't a fan of the Texans, why do you care so much what their draft history is or what it will be in the future? obviously, you've ALWAYS been a Titans fan.
I wanted to be a Texans fan. But with the way they botched that draft, there's absolutely no way I could bring myself to cheer for those idiots. I don't really consider myself a fan of any NFL team now, but if I had to root for someone i'm leaning towards the Cowboys. Baqui is right though. There is absolutely no debate anymore as to whether or not the Texans screwed the pooch with passing on VY. Anyone that claims otherwise is in denial. It's funny that it took most of you fans plus the front office a year to see what myself and many others could see on draft day.
Did someone say otherwise? Most of you fans? Go back to the archives... you'll find a majority of posters were very upset on draft day.
Yes. That's true, but go back and read the majority of the posts since, both pre-season, and all during the regular season. The overwhelming majority of the fans "forgot" their draft day feelings and began defending the pick, drinking the Texan's front office kool-aid so to speak. I really encourage you to take a look. Only a few of us stayed true to our draft day stances.
I wish they had managed to get the Jets two 1st rounders instead. Mangold and DaBrick woulda been a huge upgrade.
Who? Right, because most people who are true fans will try and get behind players on that team, especially if they're No. 1 overall picks. I wouldn't have picked Mario if I had the top pick, but at the same time, he's a Texan now and everything else is over and done with, so I'll defend him within reason. You seem to take anything positive regarding Mario or the selection as an endorsement of approval for the pick, and that's not necessarily the case. It's simply a matter of loyalty and being a fan.
Honest question. Will your opinion change if the Titans win 6 games next year...and the Texans win 9? If that scenario plays out, is it still not up for debate that the Texans didnt screw themselves that badly?
The Texans could have a big jump in wins due to other factors.. (Other players stepping up, a new QB, etc.) But they would still have been better with the addition of VY. A better record for the Texans and a worse one for the Titans would mean little by themselves without looking at the performance of VY & MW. VY has proven to be twice the impact player MW is, and at a more important position as well.
Oh, I forgot about that... forgot how you could determine a player's entire career after one season. I knew I was missing something. Thanks.
The average salary for a starter at DE is higest on average of any position on the defensive side of the ball, and second highest (behind QB) of any position on the field. Using that metric, which is about as fair and objective a metric that I can think of, I don't think it is accurate to say that Vince Young plays a much more important position than Mario Williams. In fact, a marginally more important position would probably be a better description.
If that's true, then Vince Young will always throw more INTs than TDs. Because that's what he did last year. Quick, somebody call the Hall of Fame!
You're right...its never about the stats...its more about how he inspired the rest of the team to play well...for example, because of Young's leadership abilities, pacman jones was able to return interceptions and punts for touchdowns. Also, that game against Jacksonville, where the Titans had less than a 100 total yards...converted zero 3rd downs...but still smoked the Jags. Credit Vince with the victory.
