^^^^^^^^^ LOL, is there such thing as a Catholic pimp? Because I think Achilleus would qualify. Of course it is, but besides insessently whining about it, what can we do about it that we aren't already in the process of doing? If the Astros had won just ONE more game last year, we probably would have gone to the World Series....and frankly, we probably would have won it. That history affects us RIGHT NOW too. We could be hanging a WS banner up on Opening Day. Should I start a thread about that?
ima - this is a little more pertinent, and you know it. this isn't the outcome of a game. it's an offseason decision. people around the country complain about mistakes made in offseasons years ago...this is one that's being heralded as a real doozy all around the league. i'm not incessantly whining about it. it's not like we're talking about this out of the blue. the impetus (sp?) is now that we're looking at Trent Green and freaking Patrick Ramsey to be our QB....a year after extending David Carr. yeah...i'm not thrilled with that. it's why i say this decision compounded problems. call it whining...call it complaining...call it b****ing...call it whatever. but this is the theme of the texans, to this point. they've been mismanaged. yes, i THINK kubiak and smith will do a better job. but damn.

why is this the least bit relevant? seriously? i should care what people around the country think? the texans did their homework; they did not act without a solid foundation of information. had they haphazardly made their choices, there'd be reason to still be upset. but every decision they made, from carr to williams, was understandable at the time.
i know im pointing out the obvious, but it doesn't seem like anything has changed since Casserly/Capers left... We still make stupid moves. Ahman Green?! come on guys... So which tight-end are we looking at to take 8th?
i disagree with this. we did a great job of drafting in the 2nd and 3rd rounds last year. that is vital to building a team. Casserly and Capers couldn't do that well, at all.
The jury is still out on whether this is a "real doozy" yet. If MW turns out to be the next Bruce Smith, I don't care what happens with Vince Young. We're looking for a stop gap QB this year. Who is to say we don't get a franchise QB in the next couple of years. I know, I know...VY is a once in a lifetime QB. Contrary to bbs belief, we'll have to wait and see on that one... So do I. That's my WHOLE POINT.
i agree, but we'll see this year. It's almost as though the Texans over analylze the first round and don't see whats 2 feet in front of them... I heard benny has a brother.
i'm not JUST talking about Vince. i'm talking about the decision to extend Carr that kept us from seriously considering the other options. the Broncos moved up to get Cutler. Leinart looked pretty good in AZ. but we saw something in Carr that kept us from considering those options seriously. the opportunity cost of David Carr continues to grow. so we MIGHT get a franchise QB SOMEDAY...but we had 3 guys sitting on the board who looked pretty damn good, and we had a shot at them. sorry..but that's regretable. meanwhile, we'll all be pumped about a Trent Green or a Patrick Ramsey?
and the first overall pick carr WAS NOT chosen over young, leinart or cutler; carr and the #1 pick were; this is such a HUGE point. they had 4 years of carr actually playing in the NFL and their choice between, arguably, two of the easier positions in the draft to project (RB and DE) which also adressed two glaring weaknesses on the team vs. three years of ncaa footage of the single hardest position in the draft to project (QB) plus potential cap space, which is worthless if you can't find quality players to take your money. they determined option A was a quicker route to success.
This is the hyperbole that is annoying to some of us. Many times, you don't need a franchise QB to be a successful team. If the new regime continues to draft like they did in 2006, we won't need a VY (who needed OT to avoid having the same record as the Texans) or Leinart (how many games did they win last season? Aren't they picking ahead of the Texans after picking 9 spots below them last season?) or Cutler (who took a playoff team to a non-playoff team) to be a successful team.
let me start with this: i think QB is the most important position in football. i think it has a greater effect on the game than any other position. i know there are exceptions with teams who have won super bowls with very average QB's. i understand that. of course, many of those examples were teams that featured not just great defenses...but historically great defenses. i don't see the Texans as being historically great on defense any time soon. there are as many holes there as anywhere else. but missing on this...spending money on Carr that could now be used for other things...and then ultimately bringing in a Trent Green or Patrick Ramsey to replace him...wow...that's just mind-numbingly bad to me. and that doesn't give me great reason for optimism.
Did they not set the record for most sacks given up in one season? That's a little easier to argue than things like "the Texans will never be good" and "resigning David Carr continues to screw the Texans".
Didn't he visit the Texans yesterday? He's the best of what's left out there at the QB spot unless one considers guys like Joey Harrington or Aaron Brooks as viable options at QB (relax RM95, I know that you don't). This just illustrates how badly the Carr decision from 2006 continues to impact what they want (and need) to do. The sad fact is that they have no choice but to trot David Carr back out there in the fall as they've left themselves no alternative aside from starting Rosenfels which I just don't see happening.
