Do you think he wants to play here? Is he from Houston? I think if I lived here my whole life and had the chance to play football for a living I would like to be drafted by the...hmm...New England Patriots. Be Brady's backup for a few years then take over.
I saw the question posed to him a few times and he always just shrugs it off, like he's just happy to be playing college ball period. But he has hinted he wants to play in a smaller town. (oh, and Brett Favre is his idol.. if that is any hint)
Congratulations. NOW you know why we wanted Vince Young. Your argument is almost VERBATIM what we were saying last year about VY.
If Kolb is everything you say he is forget about the Texans drafting him. What I've seen of him is nothing that would make him a top 10 pick (were the Texans will draft). If he aces the combine workouts he'll be gone before the Texans pick in the second. I think our only hope is for Stratford Jr QB Andrew Luck to Win MNC with either Texas/A&M (not likely)/ or some other team. Because as I see it , the Texans will be in the #1 pick title hunt for many years.
Don't get me wrong, I know Kolb isn't going top 15. Even with a stellar combine he'd be lucky to sneak into the bottom half of the 1st round. Quinn will be taken ahead of him and so will Smith (although personally I don't think Smith will amount to a hill of beans in the NFL).. the Texans could nab him in the 2nd or 3rd rounds.. you never know how this stuff will shake out. And trades are always possible. McClain has hinted that Kubiak's staff has floated a few eyes Kevin's way over the course of the year. But they're probably more interested in Plummer.
Vince Young was leaps and bounds better than Troy Smith in college. He literally could take over a game within a matter of one drive. And by take over, I mean have complete control of the game. He was a rare prospect. I always thought the naysayers were purely stupid, as did most of this messageboard (remember vinsanity on here? ) I don't know if Troy Smith has shown a third of what Vince did in college. From the ability to take over the game to the "it" factor, I don't think Troy Smith will be anything near what Vince will. But then again, that could be a hometown, fanboy bias talking.
Its hard to see Smith succeeding in the NFL. He's undersized. He's never really amazed anybody with his passing ability. And his legs aren't even in the same stratosphere as VY. I just don't see any real high points in his ability, other than being that fabled "winner"... who just happens to play for tOSU.. one of the most winningest teams in college football over the past decade.. Forgive me for my doubts, but I just see Smith as a place holder on a juggernaut of a football program.. much in the same way that Jason White and Eric Crouch were during their heisman years.
I still don't know who I would've picked, but it would've been between Bush and Young. I suppose if I could I would go back and decline Carr's option and take Vince. If not, I'd take Bush. I like Mario Williams, and think he will have a very good career, but Vince and Bush are going to be franchise players. Williams, even if he lives up to his potential, won't be a franchise player. I was okay with Williams at the time, because like others I thought Bush could a bit soft and be prone to injury (and he still might), and Vince would be a project. Vince has impressed me thus far (even though I wasn't all that impressed today - the Texans DC sent a blitz with no contain on the last play, that wasn't just magic from Vince). It's like taking Reggie Williams or Bruce Smith over Brett Favre or Ladanian Tomlinson. Obviously none of the three players is guaranteed to be as good as any of those players, but you get my point.
Young, Bush and Leinart look like they are going to be studs. And we got Mario Williams. Well, at least we got Demeco. Is this one of the most talented drafts in a long time? You also have guys like Colston, Cutler and Maroney.
I wanted them to take Bush originally. Looking back on it, I think that they should've taken D'Brickashaw.
