One of the problems I see on the Texans is a lack of leadership on the field. The team needs a leader, on offense and defense. One would hope it is a Linebacker on D, and the QB on O. DD
That's the thing. Carr IS the problem. How many of you would've rated the Tennessee O-Line as even "good" before VY took over? We've all spent time defending David Carr because he got "pounded" in his first few years that he got gun shy. Now that I think about it, I ask myself why I ever said that. This is the NFL. You will get hit. A lot. If you can't handle it, don't play. Especially don't play QB.
I'm completely ready to swallow the pill that will be releasing or benching David Carr and moving forward without him. However. I can't see, for the life of me, any other QB on earth who could have succeeded where he has failed. I feel bad for David, I really, really do.
coming in today's game, VY was outrushing and, of course, outpassing Reggie. he'd scored a ton more TD's and was the unquestioned leader of his team. as a rookie QB. not close.
I still think we can get a player for him. Someone that might be in the doghouse with their current team. Perhaps Sean Taylor or Cedric Benson.
wait..why not? you'll get an unmerited extension and it will take 1/2 way through year 5 before anyone will think to hold you remotely accountable for any of it. his job was a lot like being a weatherman for 4.5 years. millions of dollars. no competition for position. excuses aplenty. man, there are people who'd kill for that kind of work.
If we could get Sean Taylor for him, I'd do it and draft Kolb with our first rounder. (Maybe a slight exaggeration, but I would consider him with our second)
He's the poster-boy for a failed organization that failed him, and failed the city. There's no exact science for developing a QB, but I'm pretty sure the Texans didn't have a clue in mind on how that could happen after 2002. See, Drew Brees vs. Tony Romo tonight... Romo is getitng his lunch handed to him in their biggest game of the season (after being annointed the "chosen one"), while Brees continues to look like the difference between 2-14 and 12-4 (and his old team gave up on him 2 years ago).
You know I do think Kolb would be better than Carr but honestly if you think Kolb is the best QB option, I need some of what you're taking.
Well, I don't necessarily know if he's the best QB option, but I'm doubting whether or not Carr is, and honestly, I think that Kolb could be a very good value pickup in the draft. If we can get him with a 3rd round pick and have him work with Kubiak for a season or two, I think he could be pretty good. With that, we could spend our top picks on Defense of Adrian Peterson.
Nah, I'd rather get Bush or keep Williams and draft Brady Quinn. Had BQ played today he would have put himself in on defense in overtime to knock Vince Young out...but in saying this I realize that Travis Henry would have had to run for about 7 more touchdowns to match the number of td passes Quinn would have thrown.
I know I'm the most biased person on this entire BBS when it comes to Kolb, but i'm also the most knowledgable. I've seen nearly every start he's made over the past 4 years, nearly all of them in person, and almost all others on video at least. To put it lightly, I know what he's capable of. When people speak of the "winner' mentality that is what Kevin has. That has been his entire mantra.. "Sure I set all these records and stuff, but where is my 10 win season? Where is my championship?" He reminds me of a football version of MacGuyver, the dude just has every freaking tool and trick in the book, there's no one dimension to his game, there's tons. You can't gameplan to stop him, if you give him reasonable talent to work with he'll turn them all into stars. He understands the game and what his team is capable of and develops his own strategy like an offensive coordinator. He reads defenses like a book and rewrites the plays from scratch in the huddle. He limits mistakes and never takes his team out of a position to win. I want this kid in a Houston Texans' uniform. I don't think we'd have to break the bank to get him.
Either Bush or VY was a nobrainer, but, alas, the Texans had no brains. If you think today is bad with Young and Bush running amock, this is just the beginning. The legend of the Texan's choice will live on for years to come. I remember my utter shock on draft day, I just couldn't believe it, I still cant'. Mr. "workout wonder" Mario Williams is like he is not out there. I see him running around, but he never seems to impact the game. Today, several announcers on several networks were making fun of the Texans' first choice and passing on Bush and VY. It will only get worse, much worse. As if it is not enough to be a lousy team, the Texans are the laughing stock of the league.
Mario. We had the worst defense in the league last season, and while it's not much better this season, it's been improved thanks to him, DeMeco and Weaver. Then again, I'm one of those guys who'd take a crushing defense over a strong offense
I cant believe some of you guys are still saying Carr isnt the problem. Carr isnt a bad quarterback, but he isnt a good quarterback either. Ive always compared him to Jake Plummer, and I still stand by that. Sure, if surrounded by a good team, Carr may take the Texans to the playoffs, but he will not lead them the superbowl. The Broncos have finally seen the light, and Shanahan has benched Plummer in favor of Cutler. The reason why? Because Shanahan knows that Plummer doesnt have "it," the same "it" that Carr doesnt have either. How long are you guys going to make up excuses about the o-line and running game? Carr has been with us for 5 years now, and I cant remember when he actually just took over a game ONCE. Surely someone who has the ability to lead must put a team on his back ONCE right? The Texans should of traded down for more picks or drafted VY to start over. I love to support the home town team, but man how messed has this organization been? We as the fan should not tolerate it, as we are the ones ponying up the cash.
