i don't know how i'd break it down by percentages..but it's on players, coaches and management....and potentially owner (i just don't know who is calling the shots -- if they're bringing options to Bob he's turning down)
Probably won't release who but if they sign someone, which I am almost sure they will, they should announce it by tonight or tomorrow. If it's any name of substance then the rumors should start to trickle out sometime today. Only thing that might slow that down is the bye week, not sure how they handle that but he did say they worked REALLY hard to get a list of player that they wanted to workout today, so something should happen shortly.
I've been hitting every site I can think of that is football related looking for something, anything... especially on the trade front. I hope there was more than a little posturing by both the Texans and Redskins in terms of making a deal. The trade deadline is at 2 pm CST today, correct?
I want to say 3pm CST, truth be told, I would hold my breath for a Corner or Haynesworth. I am optimistic we will make some type of move but not the splash I and a lot of us had hoped for.
I know... I'm not banking on it, but there's a tiny glimmer of hope that the front office feels the way most of us fans do. Per NFL.com, Redskins could be dropping their price for Big Al because he's "miffed" he didn't play last week. Unfortunately, the leading candidate to acquire him is... wait for it... THE TENNESSEE TITANS!! http://www.nfl.com/news/story/09000...iet-on-the-trade-front-as-deadline-approaches
Well it looks like the Texans are working out RB Alfonso Smith who played with the Cards. Sure hope this means SSlaton is about to be dealt for defensive help.
Oh, that would be golden. The t*** already have one of the best defenses in the league. They are still trying to get better. By taking a chance. On the other hand, the Texans have one of the worst defenses in the history of modern civilization....and what are we going to do to address it? "Well shucks, Bob...we're just going to have to work through it and continue to improve with the guys we've got." Maybe we can bring in John Busing.... <--------
Speaking of Jacques Reeves, I was listening to ND Kalu on 610 over the weekend and he was saying that Reeves felt like he was gone, not even going to be given a chance to show he belonged on the roster, in the preseason (someone can correct me if I'm wrong, I think he later tempered that by saying something like sometimes players don't play all out when they know they're about to be cut).
Don't worry drummer... we have on of the best rushing attacks in the game and we're bringing in Alphonso Smith... just trying to get better... by taking a chance. Here's hoping the brass realize this is their opportunity to show the very supportive fans that they actually give a sh-t.
When was the last time the Texans made a trade? Honestly, the only trade I can think of is the one that brought Schaub here. And that was around draft time. Other than that, I'm drawing a blank. I sure as hell can't remember them trading for someone during the season. Our player acquisition breakdown seems to be 85/15 draft and free agency.
Trading mid season is pretty rare in the NFL...its not just the Texans. This season with Marshawn Lynch, Randy Moss, Deion Branch has been the exception, not the rule from what I can remember.
Is it the hard cap that makes it such a rarity for trades in the NFL? There are at least a dozen trade ideas that make a ton of sense for both teams involved (like the afformentioned Slaton+pick for Haynesworth trade) yet they never come to fruition. Part of me thinks that it's an issue of inertia. It's the way it has "always been" so it becomes the norm... because when Bill Belichek wants to make a trade, he does... be it during the season, obviously during the draft, or even days before week 1 (Seymour last year).
True, but I can only recall one trade in 8 years. That, combined with the lack of trades overall in the NFL, just gives me little reason to believe that we'll do anything differently this time around.
I can't speak for all Texan fans, but I'm not saying we are a complete failure if we don't trade for some defensive help in the next few hours. Trades in the NFL are rare, as you mentioned. And, like the old saying goes, it takes two to tango. I would just like to know that we are TRYING to do something to improve. I'm unfomfortable with this "we're 4-2 so everything is A-OK" way of thinking. Haynesworth and Ado..Asum...what's his name from Oakland are on the block. Both teams are listening to offers, whether they admit it or not. If we're not at least offering something reasonable for both players, I view that as a failure.
No doubt....i hope they aren't doing that either......I cant imagine anyone is sitting in the Texans front office with a warm fuzzy feeling given that they, by many accounts, have played one good complete game (week 1). Granted, the silver lining is that they are in 1st I would just say that we really don't know what they are trying or not trying to do just because we haven't heard anything in the media. That being said, given Kubiak's reference about fixing things in house, its awfully optimistic to think that they are feverishly working the phones
Kubiak tells me Jackson and Quin are the best guys for us to play. They're making progress! Asomugha would just set us back!
