Good points, especially #2. I think this indicates two things: One, they want to hold on to Mario and leave the rest of the defense alone. Two, this draft is going to be super heavy on offense. And that's just fine. Kubes has shown an ability to plug and play with his offense, and if that allows more $$$ to be spent on a dominant defense, fine by me. Pass rush wins championships. Look at the Giants. Re-sign Mario.

La Confora on NFL Network just said at this moment we are only 650,000 under the cap. I don't know how accurate that is after cuts.

Sounds like we'll be drafting more tight-ends this year.

Is the cap situation really that bad? I can understand we got some work to do with rookie contracts plus re-signing guys this year as well as next year. But I won't feel good if the Texans just stand pat even if they are pratically guaranteed the division next season. (sans Manning)

Wouldn't be so sure, NFL Network said we were only 615,000 under the cap at noon. Need a good 10-15 mil just to sign draft picks. I think the Texans offseason is going to be hard to stomach.

The more I read about how grim our salary cap situation is, I can't help but keep wondering if last season was our best chance. It was the last season to keep Mario/Andre/Arian/Schaub on the same team and two of them got injured and we still got a playoff win and should have been in the AFC championship... *sigh*

I meant if there were no injuries. I'm lamenting on the fact that the injuries happened.

It's all about perspective. We have a long way to go before getting worried about our window closing. Draft, secondary free agent market, training camp roster casualties, etc. Every year teams and fans freak out about this time only to realize that this round of free agency is filled with impulse buyers. Usually the big spenders don't come out on top (see 2011 Eagles). We were big spenders last year too, and luckily we swooped under the radar and got JJ and Manning while everyone was focused on Nnamdi and Weddle.

Yes, it looks like our o-line is going to be a big question mark. Hopefully we re-sign Brisiel at the very least, then you only have to plug in one completely new guy at center (Butler can suitably replace Winston IMO).

The important thing to remember is that we've got a great defense with Wade coming back and Kubiak's offense complete with a star RB and WR.

Jacoby Jones likely candidate for extension.

Oh I don't think our window's closing. We'll compete for at least 3 more years. I just wonder if last year was our "best" chance with it being our best roster yet, the weak schedule, and the parity of the league. I guess we'll see.

Yes, I do like Casey. He's played well at tight end when he got a chance to play. I also remember him having a good game as a fullback, catching a bunch of passes. He also can be valuable as a special teams player. I know he also played some QB in college, so I think he is probably one of our most versatile players who could be an emergency backup at several positions. He may not be great at any one position, but his versatility makes him valuable.

I'm sure the Texans will be filling a lot of holes on offense through this years draft. We could probably pick up a good FB in the 4th round or so, don't you think?

Vickers was due $1.5M next year. The Texans spent $250K to buyout his contract. $1.25M in savings. Good Move IMO, Jacoby getting cut and Demeco restructure is next.

I went to school with this dude. He came out the same year Vince Young did and I seen that dude do some amazing things on the Football Field in H.S. I wish nothing but the best for him.
