Marciano is safe for the foreseeable future. 5-0 teams don't cut coaching staff members midseason. Even if you did, there's simply not enough time to bring in an outside guy and implement changes on the fly. If Special Teams dogs us all year and costs us in the playoffs, than I'd expect to see a change in the offseason. I would welcome a change, personally.
I would have preferred Forsett over Martin as a replacement. Martin hasn't really proved he has the surest of hands.
McClain was talking about how Kubes told Marciano to scout some returners last year, preferably wide receivers. He came back with 2 guys he really, really liked. Martin and Joe Adams from Arkansas. Adams was drafted in the 4th before Martin, but supposedly the Texans liked Martin more anyway because they thought he was a better receiver. But it does sound like Martin's returning ability factored into why we drafted him.
go check the keo thread, i put some screen caps. is it the players or joe? me personally, i'm in favor of change.
You could have asked that same question of the defense prior to the Wade hire. We thought we just has a crappy defense full of crappy players. Wade came in and with largely the same group completely turned the defense around. Coaching matters. I think we have good talent on this team, top to bottom. I think we have enough talent to not suck so damned much on special teams.
I know CF has a guy named bucsfan but I think he only posts in the NFL board. I remember hearing from tampa fans that Ruud's numbers were empty, and that he never attacked the LOS, which is one reason Cushing is so great. Hopefully Ruud's in just for depth.
Ruud was never a superstar for Tampa. He was not good in coverage and didn't make a lot of splash plays against the run. What he could do was run the defense and make tackles in space. If reading an offense and picking up the tackles that come his way are what you are looking for from him, you shouldn't be disappointed. If you are looking for someone to make big plays in coverage or behind the line of scrimmage, Ruud is not your man.
Any returner who takes 3 kicks to the house in preseason is gonna be on someone's roster. He earned his roster spot as much as anyone. He ended up being what his roster space was - expendable piece, for another expendable piece. Its not like he was holding back Devier Posey or anything
After the preseason that Holliday had, I think pretty much everyone wanted him to have that roster spot.
Broncos claimed Holliday

Congrats to Trindon Holliday on getting claimed by the @denver_broncos. So if we see them in the playoffs, can we count on the average starting Denver field position being around the 14 yard line?
If we don't get our special teams together, he may take one back on us. That would really piss me off.
While I agree that scheme has a lot to do with how good or bad players look, Wade did not have largely the same group. Just off the top of my head, the Texans added: - Jonathan Joseph, FA - Danieal Manning, FA - J.J. Watt, 1st round pick - Brooks Reed, 2nd round pick - moved Glover Quin to safety - a healthy Connor Barwin I'm not discounting your premise that the coach has a ton to do with the success of the team, but Frank Bush wasn't exactly working with the 85 Bears either. The guys I named are enough to turn ANY defense completely around....including the 2010 Texans. As far as special teams goes, more than anything, I think it's a mindset. Remember, we lost Neil Rackers and Brett Hartmann off the special teams unit. And I know you might be laughing, but those two guys were tenacious when it came to plugging a gap and hitting the ball carrier. They took pride in their ability to hit people, and it showed. Shayne Graham had a perfect angle to make the tackle on Joe McKnight, and he completely whiffed, which allowed McKnight to cut to the sideline and take it to the house. There's a reason why guys like Braman stick around in the league.....not everybody is willing to be completely reckless and give up their bodies to make a tackle at full speed. It seems like the Texans don't have that fire on special teams, and that very well could be a product of Marciano not bringing it himself. If things continue to go this way for the rest of the season, I think Marciano's job will probably be up for some assessment, but I'm not 100% sure it's the scheme that's the problem.
