Carr is the most overrated QB in the league. And speaking of overrated Casserly should be lumped in there as well.
I wasn't really impressed either, but then i remembered that we had (some would say still have) a horrible offensive line and was amazed at what he's been able to do so far.
I guess we should have drafted Patrick Ramsey or Joey Harrington, they have been way more effective...
Wow... and you'd probably be the first person on earth to not be impressed by an expansion team's QB, behind an even worse than expansion team O-line. Look... its one thing if the guy had regressed the last couple of years, but overall, he's steadily improved (along with the team). If he and the team finally take a step back overall in a regular season, go ahead and complain away... till then, try to be a little more objective in your criticisms.
How long are you going to consider this an expansion team Nick? There are maybe 5 players still on this roster from the expansion roster in 02. Carr is in his fourth year as starting qb and has shown very little. I am under the impression that Carr was a system oriented quarterback in college but just doesn't have that certain intangible to get it done in the NFL. I just don't see it when he's in the pocket. Aside from that, when has a Jeff Tedford product ever done anything in the NFL?
David Carr and Tony Banks both looked horrible today. Carr overthrew AJ like 5 times and Banks was just horrible at every aspect. Hopefully, Ragone comes in and does something good so he takes Banks spot.
I don't consider this an expansion team... I was referring to your comment that you haven't been impressed with Carr since he was drafted (hence, your first impression of him was when he was on an expansion team). To you, he's shown you very little... when in reality, he has in-fact improved each and every year he's been in this leauge. Another FACT is that he's had to improve despite being on an expansion-like roster his first two years, and a horrible offensive line all three years. He's also looked better than the other QB's drafted in his class, despite playing on a team with far less talent and depth. I already went on record and said that if he regressed this year (even though the horrible o-line is still there), or the team faltered and had a really bad season, you can start to consider other options at QB. But, until then, you look foolish to react this way to somebody who has steadily improved every year, and is in the midst of a bad PRE-season game.
Well, at least you can't hold this one over Cowboy fans. And, you know you would be bragging lil'l biatches right now had you won. I'm gonna let you'll off the hook rather than show my ass. But, it did feel good even if its meaningless.
The things that impressed me tonight were our special teams and Vernon Morency. Our special teams with Mathis and Swinton can become one of the best in the NFL and Morency IMO can be a stud if he has the right work ethic.
Eh... I guess I should be pretty happy about the game. The O-line was pretty bad early. You guys made some great plays defensively early, but I wouldn't call that O-line one of the best in the league (especially the right side). The line had pretty much the same problems that they did in the other two games. Luckily, they seemed to get better as the game went on, but I'm still a little worried about the line. I'm not sure how well the Texans have played so far, but I wouldn't be too happy about them stopping the Cowboys offense early on personally given the past play of the Cowboys O. Defense was better. Dominick Davis (I think) had some nice runs against it early, but the rest of the RB's didn't seem to do too well against it. The pass coverage was pretty good, more acceptable that the other two games, although I realize we were lucky in some areas, especially early on. I'm not sure what was up with Andre Johnson and David Carr. FWIW, I always thought highly of Carr as a QB and would gladly take him off your hands. Patrick Crayton pretty much set himself as the 3rd WR, although Morgan made up for his drops with a TD late in the game. Tony Romo actually looked pretty good out there and didn't make any dumb mistakes; nothing spectacular, but nothing stupid. If he can keep that up, I'm OK with him as a backup. Despite the screwed up play calling to the end half, Cortez still should have made the kick going into halftime. His kickoffs were good though, and I'll guess he'll do OK. Special teams coverage sucked (poor containment), although Swinton and some of the other return guys on the Texans (Mathis?) did make some nice moves. I kind of thought it was funny to see Parcells work over Tyson Thompson on that one drive late. He looked exhausted and maybe even hurt, but Parcells made him carry the ball anyways. And despite some productivity out of the offense, we still suck on 3rd down conversions. I think we converted on one of them late, but I think we were "0 for" for most of the game. Not good. That's most of the stuff that stood out in my mind. The Cowboys looked a lot better than in the other two games, although I still have a few areas of concern that I hope will be addressed in the last preseason game. Not too long before the season starts. BTW, do you guys normally use a base 3 WR offense? Like I mentioned, Arizona and Seattle seemed to use that a lot since the Cowboys were sticking with the 3-4 most of the time, and I noticed that the Texans seemed to be doing the same. I never really thought it was used that much as a base offense.
