I hope the game isn't held in Dallass. I hope it's in San Diego. Spoiler (Dallas sucks and so does their new butt pimple stadium.)
1. Sure you can do something about the weather. It's called a roof. Retractable or otherwise. 2. I don't think commutes to games on Sunday afternoons are going to matter much. I can certainly see how it affects attendance at baseball games starting at 7 on a Wednesday night during the school year though. Without a doubt it affects attendance that way.
We've established that Dallass and its stadium suck. Let's not get the thread moved! That's really the best thing. Give SD something to look forward to and rally around. That said, I hope the Texans beat 'em down.
You must not have good sources. It looks like it may be San Diego, but not until Monday night. I bet the air quality will still not be too good for the players and fans watching.
Actually I was in that area today and the air quality didn't really seem too bad and is drastically improved. By monday, it should be fine. Whether the Q will be ready and whether they will have the law enforcement needed to have the game here could be a different story.
No, but I assume they need some time to get everything set up in the stadium for having 65,000 people be there. From what I understand they usually start this 2-3 days before a game so they still have time, but I guess it depends on when they get everyone out of there that is there now.
Yeah I've seen a lot of comparisons of the Q to the Superdome and it just doesn't make sense. There were not 100s of thousands of people left in New Orleans to make donations the whole time people were there.
The San Diego mayor just announced that the Chargers are free to play the game on Sunday at the Q with the decision left up to them. So that sounds a lot like the game will go on as scheduled unless they choose to move it to Monday for some reason.
Official word is in. Game will be played at Qualcomm on Sunday at 3:05 central. Same as originally scheduled. http://www.houstontexans.com/news/Story.asp?story_id=3840
http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/sports/5248573.html Texans game set for 3:05 Sunday in San Diego By JOHN McCLAIN Copyright 2007 Houston Chronicle The wait is over. It's official: The Texans will play the Chargers at 3:05 p.m. Sunday as originally scheduled. The office of San Diego mayor Jerry Sanders issued a release today saying the game would be played at Qualcomm Stadium on Sunday, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune. The mayor, who had been given authority by commissioner Roger Goodell to make the choice for San Diego, ended days of speculation caused by the wildfires in San Diego County. The Chargers, Texans and the NFL wanted the game played Sunday afternoon if possible. Owner Bob McNair told the league that the Texans' preference is to play Sunday if Qualcomm Stadium is ready, and the air quality has improved enough for the teams to play and the fans to attend. After San Diego mayor Jerry Sanders passed the buck late Thursday afternoon by saying Qualcomm Stadium would be ready Sunday and that a decision to play would be up to the Chargers. Coach Gary Kubiak said Thursday that it was the team’s understanding the game would be played Monday night. McNair asked the league to play on Sunday because the Texans have to play the next game at Oakland. McNair believes playing a prime-time game on the West Coast on Monday night and traveling back to the West Coast five days later would have put the Texans at a competitive disadvantage. “We want to play on Sunday if at all possible,” McNair said Thursday night. “Ultimately, the commissioner will decide where the game’s going to be played." Turning around Qualcomm Stadium for a game Sunday isn’t a problem. It won’t be used as an evacuation center for residents who were forced to flee the wildfires after Friday. McNair said his biggest concern was the quality of the air in San Diego. According to reports in San Diego, quality of air is the biggest concern for the team and city, too. Obviously, the mayor and the Chargers believe the air will be good enough for the players and fans. “I’m sure it’s a concern for everybody, but I know the league and San Diego (city officials) have everybody’s best interest in mind, and they’re trying to do what’s best for everybody,” Kubiak said. “We're here preparing at home; San Diego’s had to leave and go to Arizona to prepare. So it’s a tough situation, but as I continue to say, this week we need to think about what’s most important, and that’s the city and the people." Sanders told the Chargers on Thursday night that if they want to host the Texans on Sunday, the stadium will be ready to go. “Should they decide to play in San Diego, the stadium will be ready on Sunday,” said Fred Sainz, a spokesman for Sanders. “It's their decision to play in San Diego or not.” After touring the devastated area with President Bush and California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger on Thursday, Sanders said he would make a decision on Friday whether the game could be played in San Diego. Then he announced the stadium would be ready, but it would be the Chargers’ decision. The Chargers responded in a release that they were working with the mayor to help him back the decision. Sainz fired back that the mayor had made his decision, meaning the ball was in the Chargers’ court. At one point, Qualcomm Stadium housed 15,000 evacuees. On Thursday night, that number had been reduced to 400, according to the Union-Tribune. The Chargers moved practice to the Cardinals’ complex in Tempe, Ariz.
