more condescension. hey, if you don't like the vy posts so much, use the ignore list. see how that works.

I'm not sure you understand how the ignore list works. I cannot set it to ignore certain threads, only posters. If there was a setting to ignore all VY threads, I probably would use it. My posts obviously annoy you greatly to make personal insults to me, so I'm just trying to help you out. You could at least be a little grateful.

i don't believe i've ever seriously heard anyone take that position. i can't think of any of the "whiners" here who've seriously taken that position.

ric does this too. he ascribes comments to people he disagrees with which are not their comments. they're extreme arguments. it's frustrating because you can never pin down exactly what you're discussing when the target is continually moving.

I have absolutely heard people say that not taking VY (and even Bush) will doom this franchise for years to come. What else could that mean?

Two of those posters I enjoy their other posts and one is on my ignore list. If all three were such crybabies and were so mean and condescending to me as I apparently am to you, I sure as hell would have them on my ignore list. Use it.

Don't have a dog in this race, as the Texans suckiness & the Vinceworship are pretty much equally tiresome to me, but this:

"...screwed up a once in a life time draft. an opportunity they may never come around again."

does have an air of permanence about it, no?

how often does a superstar come along from your hometown when you have the first pick in the draft?

even broader question, how often do you get a chance to draft a superstar in any sport?

how many bagwells, wasn't draft but you know, how many olajuwons. the only reason the rockets have yao is because francis had migranes and they still lucked up into a first pick.

I get the point about the hometown player. However, it's way too soon to imply that Mario Williams won't be a superstar.

Well, the Texans should get another shot this year. And the next, and the next... ;)

But it's true. How often does a team get the #1 pick in draft with superstar prospects like we had last year? It was a unique year in college football in the level of talent you had coming out. There are 32 franchises and 1 #1 pick a year - unless you continually suck, it's not an opportunity that comes around very often. And then you have to get lucky to get it in a year where Young or Manning are the head of the class instead of Carr or Harrington or Couch.

That, however, does not mean the Texans will suck forever. It just means they could have made their life a whole hell of a lot harder.

No. Seriously, I don't read it that way at all. Yeah, it means they screwed up a great opportunity. No, it doesn't mean they're doomed to NEVER EVER NEVER be competitive. And I just don't recall anyone saying that. Not anyone serious, anyway.

    Jesus. This got derailed.

All I wanted as a casual football fan who roots for the Texans pretty much because they're my home-town team, was an explanation of why Carr gets so much heat for reasons I explained way back in the first post.

I am satisfied with the answers I got, and feel generally more informed about the Texans, the NFL, and the quarterback position than I ever have at any time prior.

Thanks to all those who responded to the actual topic.

As usual, Texans fans and others spend far more time talking about what we DON'T have than focusing on what we DO have. Lots of people just have a hard on for VY and that will continue no matter what happens. Sigh.

As for Carr, I wonder if he EVER had decent decision making skills. It's hard to know. He may have and just never got the chance to develop them due to the brutal pass rush.

Without a true quarterback coach and with all the punishment he has taken, he never learned how to make quick reads, look off defenders, alter his mechanics to evolve a better throwing motion and hit the top of his drop and release the ball.

I would also argue that he never really had the leadership intangibles. He just isn't an eat, sleep, **** football guy who lives to be with the guys, study film and improve constantly. He doesn't have that kind of competitive drive, which probably makes him a really nice guy and a hell of a husband and father, but not a terribly great leader for his team.

It's really a shame because the guy does have football skills. Doesn't mean he can't play for someone else and do well, but I just think it is time to go another direction for him and the Texans.

What's this whole thing about him being from Houston?

I wanted the Texans to draft Vince Young because he's pretty damn good.

Super Mario will take us to the promise land.

    Hopefully.

I bet if we didn't have the first pick, and something like the 23rd pick in the draft, people would still root for whatever team VY went to over the Texans.

Somebody here did post that. I'm trying to find that post.
